🌿 We’re hiring: Nurse Lead (0.8–1.0 FTE)

At Hospice Whanganui, nursing isn’t just about clinical excellence - it’s about care, connection, and walking alongside people when it matters most.

We’re looking for a Nurse Lead who’s ready to guide our nursing team with aroha, courage, and compassion. You’ll help strengthen how we deliver specialist palliative care across our community and inpatient services - supporting patients and whānau to live with dignity, comfort, and choice.

This role is perfect for an experienced RN leader who thrives in a collaborative environment, values whānau-led care, and believes in doing good work with good people.

🌿 Behind the Scenes – Hospice Whanganui on the Road

Hospice care isn’t just what happens inside a building, it’s what happens out in our community, every day.

From early morning visits to after-hours calls, our nurses, HCAs, and whānau support team travel across Whanganui and beyond to walk alongside patients and their whānau, wherever they call home.

💛 Guided by our patient- and whānau-led model of care, we go where whānau need us most.

🎄 Sponsor Shout-Out 💜

We’re sending a big thank-you to four of our generous local supporters helping make this year’s Hospice Whanganui High Tea extra special:

🍪 – creating our beautiful Christmas cookies and donating the same number that we purchase (how sweet is that?!)

💛 Shane Stone Builders Limited & Orthodocs – contributing generous cash donations towards event costs.

💡 MAD Media NZ – donating digital billboard space on the Dublin Street corner so we can spread the word far and wide!

It’s thanks to community-minded businesses like these that we can continue providing free, specialist palliative care for patients and their whānau. 💜

💛 Our volunteers are incredible.

From our shops to our gardens, from patient visits to events, our incredible volunteers bring aroha, time, and compassion into everything they do.

This week, we’d like to give a special shout-out to our Saturday volunteers across all three Hospice Shops. 🙌

Your commitment means we can open longer, welcome more customers, and raise extra funds that help keep hospice care free for patients and whānau.

We’re so grateful for all you do - and if you’ve ever thought about joining our volunteer whānau, we’d love to hear from you!

💛 Hospice Journey – The Dixon Whānau 💛

When Graham Dixon was diagnosed with renal cancer, his wish was simple: to stay at home, surrounded by whānau and the mountain he loved.

With Hospice Whanganui walking alongside, Graham was able to spend his final weeks where he wanted most - at home.

His son Duane shared: “It was such a privilege to get dad home for that last week… your parents have done everything for you your whole life and they’ve given you the opportunity to become who you are, and so when they need you, it’s just what you do. It’s your turn to be there for them”.

We’re honoured to have supported the Dixons through this journey. 🌿

🐂 One bid, two hospices, and a whole lot of aroha!

A huge thank you to Mike and Cath Cranstone of Riverton Ezicalve Herefords at their on-farm sale - raising $5,600 for hospice care.

Half of the proceeds were donated to Hospice Whanganui, with the other half going to Arohanui Hospice, chosen by the buyers, Jason and Anne-Marie McKewen.

Our gratitude also extends to PGG Wrightson Livestock and NZ Farmers Livestock - Lower North Island for waiving their commissions to support the donation - a true show of community aroha.

It’s this kind of community spirit that keeps hospice care free for patients and whānau across our region. 🌿

💛 Hospice Whanganui is deeply grateful to Mike and Cath Cranstone, their whānau, and everyone who supported the sale - including this year’s successful bidders - for helping keep hospice care free for patients and whānau.
