The Taonga Festival, organised by Northland's Taonga o te Moana dance school brought together young people, their families and the community for an amazing night of culture, joy and good vibes. They demonstrated all the dancing skills they have learned over the year from the Pacific but also included the Sri Lankan community and the Mana o te Hula dance group which has been performing in Te Tai Tokerau for over 15 years. Photos are of my view from the gazebo, a youth member dancing a siva with the boys in support and some young members performing a siva afi or fire dance.
Combined with the Canopy Bridge Night Markets is was the ideal event for us to share information about breast screening - especially the new age extension. We are also very thankful to the organisers for allowing us to attend. Ie koko! Ae marika! Cheehoo!

🌼 To all our beautiful wāhine, māmā and whaea aged 45-69 years old - you are eligible for a free mammogram!

🚎 The BreastScreen Mobile unit is currently parked outside our Ngāti Hine Health Trust office in Kawakawa - ready to welcome you to get your free breast screen check.

💃🏻 Come and see Jocelyn and the team - no appointment needed.

🌟 Open: Monday to Friday from 9:00-4:30pm.

💟 Eligibility: Wāhine are eligible for a free breast screen check every two years if you are aged 45 to 69, have no symptoms, have not had a mammogram in the last 12 months, are not pregnant or breastfeeding, and are eligible for public health services in New Zealand.

❓Can’t make it to the mobile unit but want to get checked? Eligible women will be sent an invitation. You can also freephone 0800 270 200 or visit TimeToBreastScreen.nz to sign up.

Age extension: The age for free screening is gradually being extended to include women up to age 74, with full implementation by the end of 2029.

Mobile Breast Screen unit is at 2-4 Rayner Street in Kawakawa until Friday 21st November.
