“He aha te mea nui o te ao? He tāngata, he tāngata, he tāngata.”

What is the most important thing in the world? It is people, it is people, it is people.

Kia ora koutou!
This week we celebrate Te Wiki o te Reo Māori – Māori Language Week. Te reo Māori is more than just words — it carries whakapapa, identity, and culture. It is a taonga (treasure) that connects us all to Aotearoa.

At Kensington Health, we recognise the importance of te reo in building understanding, respect, and whanaungatanga (connection) with those we care for. Every greeting, every kupu, and every kōrero helps to strengthen the language and the people it represents.

Let’s celebrate, uplift, and use te reo Māori — this week and every week.

We had a great turnout for our second Mana Ora Connected Care Session this week.

Kiel provided great scenarios which sparked great discussions and conversations around ‘Meaningful relationships’. It was beautiful to see the young people connecting, sharing and laughing.

People mentioned ‘I realise I’m not the only one’ and ‘I’ve never really shared this before.’
This kind of feedback highlights the value of group sessions and how important it is to be connected with our peers and community.

The next Mana Ora Connected Care Session is on Thursday 9th of October, 9.30-11am and is about finding my skills, strengths and values.

The cost is $29.50 (or $19.50 with CSC). And includes a script if needed. This is open to all our enroled patients aged 18-30.
Call reception on (09) 437 9070 to book in.

September is 'Bee Aware Month' 🐝

This is all about sharing with New Zealanders some basic things everyone can do to help improve bee health.

Simple things like planting more trees, using garden sprays safely, or not at all, and buying local honey can help to save our bees.

How dose bee health link to our health?
Bees are critical for pollinating flowers. Pollination by bees and other insects produces one-third of the food we eat and they contribute to the overall health of our environment.

Did you know two of our team members here at Kensington Health are also bee keepers!

In support of Dying Matters Week, our next Free Ageing Well workshop on Wednesday 3rd of September, 9.30-11am, will focus on Advanced Care Planning.

Advance care planning helps you, the
important people in your life and your health
care team plan for your end-of-life care.
It helps you and your whānau understand what the future might hold and to say what health care you would, or would not, want.
This makes it much easier for everyone to
know what you want – especially if you can no
longer speak for yourself.

Advance care planning can be done a step at a
time at your own pace. Helen and Joline will talk you through the ins and outs to help get you started.

There are still spaces available in this free workshop, please call reception to book. (Please note this workshop is for our enroled patients only).
