Today we celebrate this amazing Wahine Toa.
Ruth has been a nurse for 40 years today!

As a child, Ruth would go out on home visits with her Aunty, who was a District Nurse. This planted the nursing seed and after leaving school Ruth started her training at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Brimingham.

Ruth has worked in Cardiology, ICU, ED, Community and Primary Healthcare, and as a nurse educator.

We are so lucky to have so much knowledge and experience amongst our team here at Kensington Health.

An appropriate child restraint (car seat) is the best protection your child has when they’re travelling in a vehicle, so it's important you choose the right car seat and install it correctly to keep them safe.

Our colleges at Whānau Āwhina Plunket Whangārei run a car seat clinic every Thursday 10-12noon by appointment only, at the Family Centre in Kensington.
To book in call/text Amber on 0272525142.

Its an investment of $10 for a check or $30 for a full install, this is a small cost to keep your tamariki safe.

Understanding “Challenging Behaviours”
People living with dementia are often seen as having “challenging behaviours”. In these two sessions we discuss the reasons WHY a person may be reacting with “challenging behaviours”.

📅 Session 1: Monday, 14 July 2025 | 🕖 7–8pm
📅 Session 2: Monday, 21 July 2025 | 🕖 7–8pm

𝗢𝘂𝘁𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲
What factors can influence behaviours
We will learn what can influence the behaviour of a person living with dementia, and see the world from the person living with dementia's perspective.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝘀
In essence all behaviours are the person with dementia trying to communicate a message or an unmet need. We will work through a case scenario to try to understand what a person may be telling us, which in turn will help us best support the person.

𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
We will discuss our approach and communication strategies to best support a person living with dementia.

This month is all about Tamariki!

Did you know, one of the most important things you can do to support your child's development is to play with them!

Play creates the neural pathways in our brain that help us emotionally regulate and learn all throughout our lives.

Keep an eye on our page for upcoming events and information to support your tamariki.

Has your 2 to 4year old had their Meningococcal B vaccinations?

If they haven't had 2 doses of MenB/Bexsero vaccine, they need to be booked in before Friday 4th of July to receive their 2 doses of this vaccine for free.

Meningococcal disease is a nasty bacterial infection. It can cause 2 very serious illnesses — meningitis and blood poisoning. These complications can cause permanent disability, deafness or death.

Please check your child's plunket book or call and speak to a nurse if you are unsure if your child needs a MenB vaccination.
