Quick action and an easily accessible defibrillator are the difference between life and death in cardiac emergencies. Together, we can spread awareness and make sure everyone has the confidence to use an AED.

Heartbreaking news: Sarah Healey, a mother of three, collapsed and tragically passed away at a funeral. This heartbreaking incident sheds light on the profound impact of stress and grief on our health.

Grieving is one of the most challenging experiences, and the toll it takes on our bodies can be immense. Stress can trigger sudden cardiac events, like the one Sarah experienced, especially in moments of intense emotion like funerals.

It's a stark reminder of how vulnerable we are during times of grief. Funeral homes, places where emotions run high, should be equipped to handle such emergencies. Having Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) readily available can make a critical difference in saving lives.

Let's honor Sarah's memory by raising awareness about the importance of self-care during times of grief and advocating for accessible emergency resources in our communities. Our hearts go out to Sarah's loved ones. May her story inspire positive change.

Prof Rob Galloway -“there's one simple resolution you could undertake which requires minimal effort, and that really could save your life. It's something I've decided to do for 2024 — and that's to buy a defibrillator to keep at home.”

PROFESSOR ROB GALLOWAY: Surveys show that, as early as the first week in January, many of us have stopped our righteous living plans because we find the resolutions just too difficult.

FDA APPROVES EARLY FEASIBILITY STUDY FOR TOTAL ARTIFICIAL HEART TECHNOLOGY
BiVACOR, an international medical device company with headquarters in the United States and Australia, has received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to kick off an early feasibility study (EFS) for its total artificial heart (TAH) technology.

The BiVACOR Total Artificial Heart is intended to be a bridge for heart failure patients waiting to receive a full heart transplant. The device, based on rotary blood pump technology, is approximately the size of an adult’s fist

According to BiVACOR, the TAH uses the same technology seen in high-speed trains. Its only moving part is a magnetically suspended double-sided centrifugal pump impeller. The device’s non-contact suspension has two primary benefits: limiting blood trauma to prevent hemolysis and reducing the risk of mechanical wear.

Footballer Tom Lockyers on field cardiac arrest highlights the importance of immediate use of CPR and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) in saving lives. We wish him all the best for his recovery.

This shocking event is a stark reminder that a cardiac arrest can strike anyone, anywhere and anytime, without warning.

Do you know CPR and how to use an AED?

An AED is a medical device used when someone is unconscious, not breathing, and is unresponsive, otherwise known as being in cardiac arrest. Cardiac arrest can happen anywhere – and if it’s not treated quickly, it can lead to death.

AEDs are designed to be used by non-medical personnel. That includes you!

There is growing evidence that a link exists between anxiety and heart disease. At this busy time of year it might be worth trying "Cyclic Sighing" to relieve stress - its Simple, Quick and Free. Breathe in through your nose. When you've comfortably filled your lungs, take a second, deeper sip of air to expand your lungs as much as possible. Then, very slowly, exhale through your mouth until all the air is gone.

Stanford Medicine researchers showed that five minutes a day of breathing exercises can reduce overall anxiety and improve mood.
