Tim has developed a unique style of yoga, emphasizing breath, strength, and power, yet intertwining this with mindfulness and clarity. He is an E-RYT 200 and YACEP with Yoga Alliance. Tim has taught classes, workshops, and various festivals all over New Zealand and owns and teaches at The Loft Studio's two yoga hubs in Whangarei, New Zealand.

I would like to thank all the friends and family that wished me a happy birthday. It’s amazing to have friends all over the world and I appreciate all of you and the impact you’ve had in my life.

Well it’s been a mission these last few months getting this bee studio space up and running and making it look ALIVE!

But here it is, and here I am with a heart full of gratitude for everyone who has been a part of this yoga journey.

I could never imagine that this is where yoga would take me but it’s happened. Being a firefighter and a yoga teacher has taught me the courage to step into the unknown, to believe in myself, and to not quit.

If you’ve tried the Cat/Cow Poses and Spinal Twist Pose (Marichyasana) for back pain, next try the Triangle Pose.

This pose is a little more in depth but is a great way to stretch the body in all directions. From standing, step the right leg back and lengthen the left leg. Raise your arms so they point the same direction as the legs.

From there you bend your torso to the left leg and turn your body to the right. Hold for a few breaths and alter the pose as required so you aren’t concerned about how flexible you are, but feel expansion in all directions.

While this isn’t a restorative yoga pose, it’s ideal for lengthening the spine and hamstrings.

Back pain getting you down? Try the Spinal Twist Pose (Marichyasana).

You can do this several different ways but one of the easiest is to sit with your legs in front of you. Take your right leg and cross it over the left and then take the left elbow to the right knee and twist to the right. Hold for a few breaths. You don’t need to push yourself here, just allow the spine to twist. Repeat on the other side.

Next time I’ll feature the Triangle Pose.

Our Story

I was working as a firefighter, in my late 20’s, and I realized I was not achieving optimum health, despite being in the prime of my life and in top shape. On a friend’s suggestion, I decided to try out yoga and quickly realized that yoga was a non-negotiable in my life.

When we moved as a family to NZ, the challenges were more prominent than what we expected, and as a result, yoga became the only constant for me to connect to myself and others.

It became something that bonded me with my new firefighter colleagues because some of them were intrigued and decided to give it a try.

After a few months of teaching yoga, at the fire station, I saw these firefighters got stronger, fitter, and through yoga, their health and mental well-being also improved.
