On Wednesday 24th July, ARG Te Tai Tokerau hosted an in-branch Physio Evening for Whangārei based referrers.

Two of our radiologists, Dr Barnaby Clark and Dr Catherine Bradshaw, gave a short talk on MSK shoulder and knee.

The evening also featured a guest speaker, Dr Caroline Stuart, a Whangārei based sports physician, who spoke about the topic “Choosing Imaging Wisely – Perils and Pitfalls”.

The evening was a great success. The ARG Te Tai Tokerau team forged new relationships and strengthened existing ones with the 34 physios who attended.

We were officially opened by Hon. Dr Shane Reti, Minister of Health last Friday. The team at ARG TTT are proud to be introducing the first provincial digital PET-CT scanner in New Zealand, revolutionising cancer diagnosis and therapeutics access for Northland communities.

Since opening our doors, we have assisted over 1000 Whangārei and Far North patients with their medical imaging needs.

Prior to opening for our first day of business on Monday 15 January, a traditional Māori blessing ceremony was held at dawn. This ceremony was used to seek blessings, acknowledge the importance of health and well-being, promote a positive environment for patients and staff and honour the traditions of the local Iwi in Te Tai Tokerau (Northland).

The ceremony was attended by representatives from 3 of the local Iwi, senior staff members from Matakohe Architecture and Whangārei Hospital and staff from RHCNZ Medical Imaging Group and Auckland Radiology Group. Speeches and karakia were followed by a light breakfast in the new clinic space.

We would like to thank everyone who has been involved in this project for all their hard work over the last 2 years. ARG Te Tai Tokerau is our first Northland clinic and significantly improves access to essential medical services for local communities.
