I have shared this before, but it is worth reposting. You can see changes in the teeth through myofunctional therapy, and on occasion, this means orthodontics is not needed. It is not always the case, but OMT is non-invasive and rehabilitative, so why not try? But to do orthodontics without OMT can often result in the teeth shifting back to their original position. 😱

This study demonstrated clinical relevance of NOI on the cessation of a digit sucking habit, closure of anterior open bite and reduction of overjet. Further investigations are indicated.

It is effective to use myofunctional therapy for jaw disorders. Particularly if used as an adjunct to other disciplines. The problem is that OMT is discounted because of a lack of understanding of its rehabilitative effect. Good to see this, and thank you to Dr MacIntosh for highlighting it.

I've shared enough information in the past for you to know they are missing key details about the airway. So, should they have included rehabilitating the oral muscles? I have seen this remedied in children and adults using oromyofunctional therapy, so it should be considered part of the treatment plan.

Our aim is to evaluate and treat patients with many orofacial dysfunctions or anomalies, correcting poor muscle function of the lips, tongue, face and neck. To enable the patient to breath, chew, swallow and create sound in a normal and harmonious musculature environment. Rehabilitating muscles takes time because those habits have been formed over a lifetime.
