Endometriosis: Not Just a Pelvic or Reproductive Illness
Endometriosis is often misunderstood as simply a “period issue,” but it's much more than that and deserves a whole‐body conversation.
A Systemic Illness, Not a Local One
While endometriosis does involve tissue growing outside the uterus, research now shows it’s a chronic, systemic disease, not just a gynaecological condition. It triggers widespread inflammation, affects metabolism, the immune system, even gene expression in the brain leading to fatigue, mood disorders, migraines, and more.
Beyond the Pelvis
Yes, endo can affect the ovaries, bowel, bladder, or pelvis, but it can also appear in the lungs, diaphragm and so much more. Its reach isn’t limited.
There Is No Cure! Not Even Hysterectomy
Removing the uterus through a hysterectomy doesn’t cure endometriosis, especially because the disease exists beyond the uterus. Pain relief is not guaranteed, and symptoms often return or persist.
It’s time to break the myths, push for better research, and ensure whole-body care for everyone with endometriosis.
