This morning, our preschool children took their creativity outdoors, enjoying the warm sunshine as they created self-portraits from memory 🌞🎨
Standing side by side, they collaborated, shared space, and engaged in rich conversations about the features that make them uniquely themselves. From the shape of their eyes to their hair, smiles, and the little details they chose to include, each drawing reflected how they see and understand who they are.
Through this experience, the children explored identity in a meaningful way, recalling and representing their own image from within. This process supports the development of self-awareness, self-love, and a growing appreciation for their individuality. It also opens space for recognising and respecting the differences in others, fostering an early understanding of diversity and inclusion.
In line with the Reggio Emilia approach and the concept of the “100 languages of children,” drawing becomes one of the many ways children express their ideas, thoughts, and sense of self.
Today, their artwork was not just about creating images, but about communicating identity, building confidence, and celebrating both themselves and each other 💛
