Dry Needling for Musculoskeletal Pain
Dry needling helps reduce pain, release tight or overactive muscles, and restore healthy movement by targeting myofascial trigger points with fine, sterile needles.
✔️ Improve mobility
✔️ Calm stubborn muscle irritation
✔️ Enhance the effectiveness of your rehab or exercise programme
If you’re dealing with persistent muscle or joint pain, dry needling may help you feel and function better.
What Actually Happens During Dry Needling? 🤔
Dry needling creates a series of natural responses in the body. Here are the four key mechanisms:
1️⃣ Segmental Distribution Response
Needling stimulates nerves that share the same spinal segment as the painful area.
This helps the spinal cord dampen pain signals, reduce muscle guarding, and create a more relaxed movement pattern.
2️⃣ Immune & Inflammatory Response
Dry needling creates a healthy, therapeutic inflammatory response.
This boosts blood flow, encourages tissue repair, clears out irritants, and helps calm chronically tight or overloaded muscles.
3️⃣ Neuromuscular Reset (Acetylcholine Response)
Overactive trigger points release too much acetylcholine, causing constant contraction.
A needle disrupts this cycle, reduces excessive ACh release, and often triggers a “twitch”—
followed by improved muscle relaxation and better oxygenation.
