Important update

With omicron now in our community the following has changed for your appointments/support people in the labour room and visitors to the ward at Southland hospital, winton maternity and the lumsden hub. These precautions are in place to keep you your baby and your whanau safe as well as us so we can continue to provide care to women.

-For antenatal appointments please remain in your car You will be phoned and screened prior to entry into the clinic space. We will also be doing some of your appointment via phone with in person assessment consisting of clinical hands on only I.e bloods, blood pressure fetal heart rate etc. You must have a mask on.
If you are unwell please make contact to reschedule your appointment.

-You are allowed to have one person with you for appointments but no children under 15, you and your support person must wear a mask and have no symptoms.

-For labour and birth you are allowed one support person with you and then after baby is born one visitor at a time these rules apply to both winton maternity and Southland hospital. If you are having a c/section your partners attendance in theatre is at the discretion of theatre staff we have no say if they attend or not.

-Postnatal appointments will remain in your home for now again one person can be in the room with you provided they are not symptomatic. We will be doing these appointments via phone and then comming in to weigh baby and any other hands on clinical assessment required.

Thank you for your understanding.
Nicole and Julie

Visiting guidelines for Southland:

Under the current MOH traffic light system, while in orange these are the guidelines surrounding the use of both Southland Hospital and Winton Maternity Centre;

ALL PATIENTS ARE ABLE TO USE HEALTH SERVICES WHETHER OR NOT THEY ARE VACCINATED AGAINST COVID-19.

Please note that there are no restrictions on whether or not the visitor/s are vaccinated.

1. No Children to visit under the age of 12

2. Visitors and support people to wear a medical mask and practice good hand hygiene

3. Visitors to scan in or sign in providing contact details

4. Practice safe social distancing and remain 2 meters apart from others

5. Visitors are to be well with no suspicion of COVID - 19

6. Partners/support people can stay during the birth and post-partum period as we have individual self-contained rooms

7. Formal visiting hours are to be adhered to - 1400-2000hrs unless prior arrangement with charge midwife or co-ordinator on shift

8. Until further notice we will continue our present policy of allowing only one visitor per room at any given time, i.e the visitor would have to swap out with partner/support person. The visitor should be limited to someone within the extended family bubble

Hello to our wonderful Central Southland Midwifery Whanau.

As midwives we undergo standards review through-out our years of providing midwifery services. This means that your feed back is very valuable to us and a critical part of our review.
Below I am going to post a link to the New Zealand College of Midwives page where you can leave us feedback. This feedback is able to be made anonymously if you wish. Nicole and I would be grateful for your feedback to contribute to our continued learning, and development as Midwives.

Thank you, Julie x
