It literally did! During an already stressful time in my personal life, I had landed what I thought was a great escape-route of a job in telecommunications. I began traveling a lot to manage T1 installations for American Airlines. It was insane to say the least. Within 6 months I was suffering brutal stomach pains. I couldn’t eat anything remotely acidic without major discomfort. I had tried a few months of various prescriptions, but nothing seemed to alleviate the relentless pains. As a last resort, I thought I had no where else to turn to and had agreed to have surgery at 21 years old.
A few days before the surgery, a friend came over to my house. He found me curled up in the fetal position, immobilized on the floor. When I told him what was wrong, he headed for the door and said don’t move, I’ll be right back with the perfect solution (I definitely wasn’t going anywhere!).
He came back with a little bottle in his hands some 20 minutes later. I was skeptical he had anything that could work, but open to anything at this point. He rubbed his hands and proceeded to pour drops from the bottle on his warmed palms and cupped them over my nose and mouth. “Breathe deeply” he instructed as my eyes bulged with the intensity of the lemon aroma “and keep going til I tell you to stop. “Repeat this for 3 minutes every waking hour. I really expected nothing to change.
The next morning, I woke and there was no more pain. I hadn’t been able to enjoy a glass of orange juice with breakfast for months and suddenly it was okay? I was in a state of cognitive discord. Could this really be happening with Lemon? Something in me switched on that day and I have never looked back. I never ended up in surgery and I haven’t had any stomach issues since!
Later, when I became an aromatherapist, I learned of the properties of lemon oil, how calming it is without making one sleepy, how good it is for the respiratory and digestive systems and why it was the perfect solution for me. (Not to mention that it smells so damn good).
