Starting the year bringing positive energy and healing care to communities in need.

The first medical outreach clinics in remote communities of the lower Ucayali and Maranon Rivers begin this week!

The team working alongside our partners from Global First Responder will provide full medical care to people living in five remote communities.
Also during the week the team will build a community center in the village of Payorote.

Construction materials were transported last week, and all clinic, medical supplies and food/water for the team went out yesterday.

Making a positive impact!
All of us at are thankful to continue working with Engineers Without Borders professional chapters from all over the US to bring life-improving projects to remote communities of the Peruvian Amazon.

As soon as the 10 septic toilets were installed in Payorote, we began working with EWB Sonoma County in the community of Vista Alegre on the lower Ucayali river to install a potable water system.
Concrete footings and columns have been poured!

Our awesome Amazon Promise medical team has returned after an intense and exhausting 4 days of hiking along dried riverbeds and down jungle paths to reach people living in communities affected by an extended drought.

We treated people with acute health issues and provided first-aid kits to each village.

Hope is on the horizon because while the team was out on the Yarapa, a small section of the river rose enough on the second day to travel part way in canoe.

Thank you to our resilient and caring team, Adriana Lujan, Maggy Padilla, Juan Yuyurima Jaramillo, Ricky Coloma, and Alter Coloma, and to each community for your collaboration and assistance.

Thanks to your generous donations, our team members in Iquitos are organizing supplies we purchased today and will head out on Friday to provide medical care and deliver first-aid supplies to three communities of the Yarapa and Tahuayo rivers.

Progress!

The Engineers Without Borders Central Houston team and Amazon Promise, continue working every day with the people in the village of Payorote making excellent progress installing the first ten septic systems. We're starting with ten families, chosen by the community, but every family will eventually have their own septic toilet system.

It's exciting to see a project that has been in the works for a couple of years reach the construction stage!

Our partners from Engineers Without Borders Central Houston along with Amazon Promise Special Projects Manager, Jose Luis Valles, are implementing a septic sanitation system for the people in the remote river community of Payorote.
They will soon have both clean water and sanitation.

The Amazon Promise family planning medical team has returned from the jungle!

Access to family planning is essential to securing the well-being and autonomy of women in the remote communities we serve.
Smaller families and increased child spacing help decrease rates of infant and child mortality, improve the economic conditions of women and their families, improve maternal health, while also conserving natural resources.
That's what our family planning program is about.

Thank you, Geresa Loreto, for your partnership bringing safe effective family planning and women's health education to the communities of the lower Ucayali and Yarapa Rivers.

So far, forest fires in Peru have left 16 dead and 140 injured, and damaged forests, fragile ecosystems and crop fields. Of the 234 fires recorded this year, 34 are still active.

It's time to head out again!
Our family planning medical outreach team is getting organized to leave for the jungle on Wednesday.
We partner with the ministry of health (moh), Geresa Loreto, to provide women with safe effective family planning options.
Our team physician will provide emergency and urgent care to the general population, and moh med techs will give vaccinations, while nurse specialists attend to all women's health needs, provide family planning education and contraception.
