Welcome friends, medicine family and new listeners! We are so proud to announce the release of this beautiful project, a true labor of love that is the product of many months of planning, many late hours, many hands and voices, and the tremendous generosity of many gifted individuals. Here we offer the first of what we hope will be many such collections of songs, The Heart Of The Jungle Volume I, “Into The Heart Of The Jungle” !!!

As some of you know, The Heart Of The Jungle is a collective of medicine workers, dieteros, medical and psychiatric practitioners - and all of us dreamers! The mission of this collective is to learn of and keep the traditional practices and medicines of various indigenous peoples throughout South America and beyond. Beginning with the Shipibo of the Ucayali region of Eastern Peru, we are slowly expanding to learn these ancient ways that are being lost to modernity, and keep and preserve these traditions and technologies, while seeking to build on their foundations by adapting them to today’s world with today’s problems.

The Heart of the Jungle is currently offering guided and well facilitated Master Plant Dieta Retreats and individual guidance for medicine work, ceremonies and other collaborations for holistic retreats including Medicine Plants. We are building towards having our own center one day, to better serve our communities and those who seek to heal themselves with the incredible pharmacy of medicinal plants we are blessed to receive from the the Amazon Jungle. It is with this hope and dream in mind that we release this offering as a fund raiser towards meeting the goal of finding and purchasing the land that will become the home base for our services. While these funds will primarily recouping our cost to produce the album, any further proceeds will go towards building, maintenance and hosting our website, but the main thing we hope to gain from initiating this project, is greater visibility for our cause, while cross promoting our dear collaborators on this album.

This album is a collection of songs brought to you by a group of dieteros who have all dieted amongst the Shipibo. Hailing from across the world, each one brings a unique presentation, highlighting the diversity and individuality present within the collective whole. Here you will find pure icaros, sung by our maestro, Miguel Ochavano Urquia, as well as raw unaccompanied prayers and invocations, intimate acoustic tracks and full blown, full band elaborations.

Over the coming weeks and months we will take you on a journey into The Heart of the Jungle as we introduce you to each of the artists one by one, highlighting their contributions as well as sharing a bit about each one and how they came to support this project.

And not to forget the man responsible for pulling all the pieces together in the studio, Juan Grosvi Tapullima Rodríguez. He produced five of these tracks and mastered the album at his studios in Pucallpa, Peru, at the Mozart Escuela Contemporánea de Musica, and we are so grateful for this man and the many hours of expert labor he donated to this release.

As well, we have eternal gratitude for each musician, every producer and engineer, our maestro and all those who have already supported The Heart Of The Jungle along our journey so far. Hello dear family!

I am sending you this message from the beautiful mountains of the Diamante Valley, Costa Rica! I embarked a new adventure with Soltara, a Center for Ayahuasca retreats working with Shipibo tradition. I am so grateful to Life that brought me to work with this amazing team. This place is operating from the heart while being involved with the most skilled individuals, bridging science, modern psychology and ancient technology. I feel this team being a gathering of the best hearts, minds and souls and I am blessed to have the chance to be part of this in this moment.

Since many years, Soltara have been operating at Playa Blanca, their first location and this last month, we have opened the new site which is a collaborations with the HOLOS community, well established here in the Diamante Valley, owning 200 acres of land hosting 7 waterfalls.

I will be serving here until July 28th and will be back from September 25th until December 18th. BIG OFFICIAL NEWS TO ANNOUNCE
FOR THE HEART OF THE JUNGLE!!!

There is a big change coming to The Heart of the Jungle, which we are very excited to share. After many years of working exclusively with our Maestro Papa Gilberto Mahua for our Master Plant Dieta Retreats, we have chosen for several reasons to begin working with a new maestro. This was not an easy decision, one that came over many months of searching and prayerful deliberation, but one we finally felt was right for us to take for the service and experience we want to offer our dieteros. While we will continue to work with Papa Gilberto in Paoyhan, our new maestro and location for dieta, give us some advantages we feel are a big improvement to what we offer. For those of you coming to us already having dieta experience and wishing to deepen your work in a solo fashion, we will continue to recommend working with Papa Gilberto and offer our services to support your process in Paoyhan. However, if you are new to dieta or even have experience but are seeking a more comprehensive level of support and guidance, we will recommend our group dietas with our new Maestro, within the group context, which we find brings a different and deeper layer of understanding, growth and healing to the individual process, as dieting with others allows for reflection and co-support, while we still safe guard personal time and days of silence for each one to go inward with themselves.

ABOUT MAESTRO MIGUEL OCHAVANO URQUIA

Our new maestro, Maestro Miguel Ochavano Urquia, is also from Paoyhan and is the nephew of Papa Gilberto. While he is younger by about a decade, he is not short on experience, having begun his dieta training at the ago of 12, just like Papa Gilberto. Maestro Miguel has over 50 years of personal experience and has offered dietas to others for most of that time. His understanding and knowledge of Shipibo Ethnobotany is truly impressive, as he works with many dozens of medicinal plants, with deep personal experience of each one and their curative properties. Our recent experience with him in our last dieta, was full of light, joy and laughter and enthusiasm which we are coming to recognize as part and parcel of his energetic signature. We couldn’t be happier to call Miguel our Maestro, and look forward to introducing him to more of you in the future!

Our decision to take a new maestro also comes with a change of location! Thanks to a friend of Isabelle’s, we have a beautiful private center available to us, situated on 18 hectares of reforested land, about one hour from Pucallpa. Near the Ucayali River and the small Shipibo village of San Francisco, it is a quite and tranquil locale, home to countless bird species, the occasional monkeys and a wonderful canopy of trees providing shade and the ambience of the jungle. There is a large pond for swimming, a well appointed kitchen, staff quarters, two malocas and ten tambos (cabins) for dieteros with their own private bathroom. Overall, having the center to ourselves means we don’t have to share the space with others nor deal with the noise and distractions that can sometimes make dieting in a village difficult. We found this a strong advantage in the last retreat, allowing our group to bond deeply with one another, as well as find ample quietude and tranquility for themselves, away from the energetic interference of the village setting.

Despite it’s isolation, the center is a mere 15-20 minute walk from San Francisco, where a few of our scheduled events for the new dieta will take place.

MAESTRO PEPE RAMOS

We also want to take the opportunity to announce our alliance with another maestro, Maestro Pepe Ramos of Cusco, who has a lifetime of training with the Andean medicine path, and works with another plant ally, Wachuma, or San Pedro cactus. Our first scheduled event with Pepe will be in late January and early February when we host another project we are very proud to share, the Sacred Vibrations Pilgrimage. While we will still serve Ayahuasca, Wachuma and Cacao on this 17 day journey, it will be quite different from the diet experience, more of a cross cultural, cross country adventure, as we explore sacred sites across the various biomes of Northern Peru. INDIVIDUAL GUIDED DIET WITH MAESTRO GILBERTO MAHUA

If you have experience with Ayahuasca and feel the call to enter the powerful process of a Master Plant diet, there is many things that are crucial to know before traveling and committing yourself to this beautiful gift to yourself. As the Shipibo tradition and dieta has it’s own codes and protocols and the Shipibos are living a very different reality than us, it is useful to seek guidance for entering this healing modality with ease and grace. As well, traveling to the Peruvian jungle, translation, logistic and booking can be sometimes nerve wrecking and disorientating so we can offer our experience with all of these aspects for your safety and well being.

From what I’ve witnessed through years of therapies, research and personal experiences with healing modalities, the Shipibo Master Plant Diet is definitely one of the most radical and transformative processes to be known. A diet or « Sama » as it is known in Shipibo, is more than what you can experience with one or many Ayahuasca ceremonies, or any other entheogen from around the world. It is a true technology, combining the power of Ayahuasca guided by a skilled shaman, the healing of other powerful plants called « Master Plants » or « Teachers », a specific diet, isolation, rest and self reflection. It is a mix of vision quest, ceremonies and opening oneself to the mystery of the non-linear, quantum healing of the plant realm.

Life always gives you what you need, and sometimes what you asked for. Due to extenuating circumstances beyond our control, we had to change the venue and the Maestro for our Master Plant diet retreat at the last minute. With the change of weather in the Amazon, the flooding of the Ucayali river and the surrounding villages, combined with some over-booking at the center we usually work with, we were forced take this difficult decision and relocate our retreat.

Working with plant medicine in a Peruvian indigenous context can be nerve wrecking even if this sacred chaos is a great teacher. Offering the best safe space to our "passajeros" is our priority and as we are bridges between cultures, communities, individuals and entheogens, we always feel the weight of responsibility on our consciousness.

For years, we have been calling in other Maestros or Maestras to work with but unfortunately it is not so easy to find many trustworthy ones with a good reputation and work ethic. As they say here in the jungle and around Pucallpa, "you lift a stone and you will find a self proclaimed Shaman."

The path of a true healer with Ayahuasca medicine requires years of learning, diets and sacrifices. With the changes in society and worldly culture and technology, less and less young people tend to commit to this demanding spiritual path. Also, with the growing interest for Ayahuasca, some Maestros and Maestras are losing their alignment with the appeal of money and sexuality.

Despite some stressful aspects concerning the last minute changes to our dieta ended up being one of the most lightful and enjoyable we have had. We witnessed participants going deeper and bonding more. The Recover Center where we had the chance to spend 11 days was reserved only for our group and all the employees were deeply dedicated to their work and a pleasure to work with from our end.

We also found in Maestro Miguel Ochavano Urquia a great, cheerful and loving teacher, always available to teach and answer our questions. We definitely want to continue this collaboration.

All this became possible with the help of our friends around Pucallpa and San Francisco village: Dany for the coordination support, Helen for the Recover Center, Alemerce for the connection with the Shipibo community, Edwin for the transport, Dorcas for the cooking and Lucho for the support at recover center. We also want to thank deeply Helena and Shahar for their support in informing us for this possibility while they were in diet themselves with Miguel. Finally we express gratitude to all the amazing beings from all over the world that were flexible enough to take the leap of faith with us and shift gears last minute, adapting to a different retreat than the one they originally signed up for!

Plant or Flower bath

The flower bath is a sweet and beautiful way of cleaning our energy field and aura, allowing us to let go of unwanted energies and to receive the blessing of connecting with the plant realm. Flowers offer their aromas and cleansing properties, and plants lend their strength and protection, to leave you feeling lighter and with an opened heart, as you bathe in their essences.

According to the Shipibo tradition, the flower bath is used to cleanse heavy energies or "sh*tana" that can be accumulated from bad habits, negative thought patterns or for cleaning the strong energy of "jimi" or blood in menstrual periods or after birth for the mother and the baby.

Before our retreats, we offer this ancient tradition to our participants with our own touch: including each of us in the sharing in uplifting and caring for each other. As we bathe, sing to and encourage one another with beautiful words of love, we enter in a collective positive trance, bonding together and opening a space of safety, security and vulnerability to be shared forward in the retreat.

Hello beautiful friends! As we near the date of our May Master Plant Dieta retreat, we'd like to share with a testimonial by our dear friend Can! Can came to us at a moment where he felt he was stuck in some routines and behaviors he did not feel were serving him. Over the course of the dieta we shared with him, we had the honor of witnessing a profound transformation in him, as he reconnected to his wonder and joy, ultimately leading to him to successfully make some very big changes in his life upon his return home. Can has a great sense of humor, a HUGE heart that is felt by all around him. Indeed, at the fiesta we through at the end of the dieta, Can felt called to splurge a bit and sponsored the purchase of many treats and toys for the children of Paoyhan! This group is a great opportunity to support each other and stay connected. We consider that the setting and support before, during and after ceremony/diet are crucial for extracting the very essence of this medicine work.

Our team has been brainstorming about different ways to build more community and support for Heart of the Jungle participants. We have been inspired by many ideas and here is one of our exciting offerings… 🥁📢🥁

*** We will be hosting monthly 90-minute integration circles on Zoom, starting on Sunday, February 23rd, 2025, at 11 am, Lima time (Consult your own time zone according to this time) ✨🌿

It is an opportunity to come to support others in their integration process, be supported or both. We will share a theme every time to help us diving in and share our perspectives on different aspects of integration, post diet and medicine work. As well, we will be sharing tools, tips, practices and refletions to support each of us in this delicate process.

The first integration circles will be co-led by Isabelle and Ally. To ensure adequate sharing time for each person, we will limit the circles to 10 participants. Yesterday, we had such a strong, powerful and ❤️ felt cacao ceremony. Strong energies travelling in the room amplified with an amazing cacao criollo from the region.
