Living in a tent sounds like fun in the summertime, but not during the cold - and especially if you are a mom with small children.
Here is how Diana Bizak helped a young mom in very difficult situation:
"The way we all work together to help is a sign of God's love to the world. A recent visit is an example of this. I met a homeless mother at the children's daycare. She was living in a tent with her 3 year old and 18 month old. At the visit we wrote vouchers for food, clothes and gas. But, she needed more and a tent isn't a good place for small children as the weather gets worse.
"I emailed someone that could help with rapid housing. The mother was already getting consistent help from Take the Next Step for diapers and she had a housing navigator working on permanent housing. The mother had been staying in a local hotel through a grant from the City of Monroe and had been working. She'd become homeless when that grant ran out.
"Several members of SVdP got together blankets, firewood, a tarp, rope, and stuff to start fires and took it to their camping spot.
"Through your donations, SvdP's volunteering, city grants and government programs and other organizations like Take the Next Step God's love is shown through generosity and caring.
"You can also join with your fellow parishioners and sign up to help our entire parish welcome those in need to our community with our 9th Community Dinner that will be held on November 21st.
"Please come prepared to donate this weekend. Make your check out to The Society of St. Vincent de Paul. There will be envelopes in the pews."

La forma en que todos trabajamos juntos para ayudar es una señal del amor de Dios al mundo. Una visita reciente es un ejemplo de esto. Conocí a una madre sin hogar en la guardería infantil. Ella vive en una tienda de campaña con su hijo de 3 años y su bebé de 18 meses. En la visita, escribimos vales para comida, ropa y gasolina. Pero necesitaba más y una tienda de campaña no es un buen lugar para niños pequeños a medida que el clima empeora.
Enviamos un correo electrónico en busca de ayuda con una vivienda rápida. La madre ya estaba recibiendo ayuda constante de Take the Next Step para pañales y tenía un asesor de vivienda trabajando en la vivienda permanente. La madre se había estado quedando en un hotel local gracias a una subvención de la ciudad de Monroe y había estado trabajando. Se había quedado sin hogar cuando se acabó la subvención.
Varios miembros de SVdP reunieron cobijas, leña, una lona, cuerda y cosas para encender fogatas y las llevaron a su lugar donde ella acampa. A través de sus donaciones, el voluntariado de SvdP, las subvenciones de la ciudad y los programas gubernamentales y otras organizaciones como Take the Next Step, el amor de Dios se demuestra a través de la generosidad y el cariño.
También puede unirse a sus compañeros feligreses e inscribirse para ayudar a toda nuestra parroquia a dar la bienvenida a los necesitados a nuestra comunidad con nuestra Novena Cena Comunitaria que se llevará a cabo el 21 de noviembre.
