Gum inflammation is a risk factor for dementia later in life.

There is exciting new evidence to suggest dementia may be preventable...

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) patients exhibit neuroinflammation consistent with infection.

To test the idea that the brain is susceptible scientists have attempted to isolate human brains and test the presence of certain bacteria.

Tissue microarrays containing s*x- and age-matched brain tissue cores from the middle temporal gyrus of both AD patients and neurologically normal individuals were used for studies.

The oral bacteria that is the keystone bacteria in gum disease was isolated from the dementia affected patients.

Results also showed both the presence of P. gingivalis associated with tau tangles which are typical of the Alzheimer’s brain.

Furthermore oral infection induced in mice with P.gingivalis induced Alzheimer’s like symptoms in the brain.

In fact, there have been multiple studies over the last 20 years showing the different mechanisms contributing to Alzheimer’s dementia.

They all equate to lifestyle and diet related conditions.

Recently, a non-peer reviewed trial has shown an 80% improvement in Alzheimer’s treated patients.

Researchers used precision medicine techniques to mitigate known risk factors for the Alzheimer’s brain.

Twenty-five patients with Alzheimer’s disease or mild cognitive impairment, with Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) scores of 19 or higher, were evaluated for inflammation, chronic infection, gut imbalances, insulin resistance, cardiovascular disease, sleep apnea, hormone imbalance, nutrient deficiency, toxin exposure (metals and biotoxins), genetics

Brain magnetic resonance imaging with volumetrics was performed at baseline and study conclusion.

Through mitigating these risk factors, patients were treated for nine months with a personalized, precision medicine protocol that addressed each patient’s identified potentially contributory factors, and cognition was assessed.

So, if your gums bleed, it is a warning sign from your body, your brain requires strong healthy teeth.

Do you experience bleeding gums?

Tooth decay isn’t an infection.

It’s an imbalance of the nutrients that create defence, and the microbes that live in the mouth during health.

There is a nutrient and mineral economy underway in your mouth right now.

The oral microbiome is the population of bacteria that live within the mouth. Trillions of microbes live within your gums, on your tongue, and flowing up and down the tiny tubules pipes that make up the structure of your teeth.

In health a balanced oral microbial population participates in normal mineral balance of the mouth.

Bacteria use calcium to build plaque on the teeth.

Studies show that they also detect the amount of metabolic activity underway to digest certain foods and adjust accordingly.

For instance, if you eat a high sugar meal, the bugs detect this, and release minerals in response to the decreasing (higher acid content) pH of the mouth.

When the minerals run out and you continually fuel the bacteria with certain types of simple carbohydrates, the bugs that quickly eat these sugars overgrow.

A sign of disease is a loss of diversity in the bacterial colonies of both the mouth and gut.

We can replenish these bacteria by eating foods that re-establish the healthy defences of the mouth.

That includes fermented foods like kefir, that provides probiotic strains like Bifidobacterium, known to defend against bugs that may overgrow in disease.

If the body is healing a cavity, it has to use it’s bone building resources (vitamin D, K2, A and other minerals), to first emit an immune response to deal with the bacteria, then place down reparative dentin.

It’s remarkable that we have the inner ability to heal teeth, it’s just it’s a very finnicky process.

Never forget teeth have the ability to heal, but it’s ultimately up to what you put in the body.

Have you had a cavity before? Did you picture it like this?

Breastfeeding is not easy, but it’s really worth it.

In terms of dental development, breastfeeding is one of the best ways we give a newborn child what it needs for healthy teeth.

One of the big ways that we are learning of how important nursing is through the delivery of bacteria that populate a newborn’s mouth.

These bugs then form the gut bacteria, that form the immune system of the mouth and gut.

It critically begins to turn on every cranial nerve in the child’s head.

Here the Mother is wiring the child’s circuitry that become the primary sensory tools for life.

Smell, vision, oral sensation all connect the baby with the Mother’s breast, and stimulates milk with cooing sounds.

The cranial nerves feedback to some of the most critical neural centers in the brain.

The facial nerve CN VII, trigeminal nerve CN V, glossopharygeal CN IX and vagus nerve CN X, all work together to feed the trigeminal nucleus all the sensory information from the face, including touch-position and pain-temperature.

The tongue, powered by the hypoglossal nerve (XII) teams up with the deep throat nerves to teach the baby to swallow.

These responses train the airway to be strong and open.

It allows the baby to nasal breathe, and deliver critical nitric oxide rich air to the lungs that calms its autonomic nervous system.

There are higher risks of certain conditions for both baby and mother who don’t breastfeed.

For babies who don’t breastfeed, research shows a higher risk of:
• Asthma
• Ear infetions
• Gut dysfunction
• Pneumonia
• childhood obesity
• type 1 and type 2 diabetes,

For mothers, failure to breastfeed is associated with an increased incidence of:
• premenopausal breast cancer
• ovarian cancer
• retained gestational weight gain
• type 2 diabetes

Now, the purpose of this post is NOT to place guilt. Some parents cannot breastfeed. However, I think it’s really important for us to know what exactly our bodies are capable of.

It’s also important to know in any child’s medical history to establish how we can move back to root cause issues.

And, I’m still seeing plenty of issues in breastfed kids today, which I’ll talk about coming up.

Were your children breastfed?

ADFRACCION DENTAL.

ADFRACCION DENTAL.

Do you have restless sleep or grind your teeth?

Teeth grinding often accompanies a set of other symptoms, including:

- Low blood pressure
- Chronic stuffy nose
- Temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD)
- Headaches or migraines
- Irritable bowel syndrome
- Tension headache
- Hyperventilation syndrome
- Chronic fatigue syndrome
- Cold feet and hands
- Depression or anxiety
- Brain fog, daytime sleepiness
- Allergies, skin rashes

Why would this be?

People who grind their teeth, often work or study long hours or report stressful family situations. Stress plays a part, but teeth grinding also reveals how people breathe during sleep.

To put it more correctly, teeth grinding hints at a set of sleep disorders and lack of oxygen during sleep. It’s a little-known condition known as upper airway resistance syndrome. And it is far more common than you’d expect.

It’s estimated that 70 million Americans suffer from sleep disorders. You may ask how the number could be so big? Many people simply don’t know they are at risk. They also have sleep disorders that are hard to pick up and even define.

The relatively small number of diagnoses are those with obstructive sleep apnea, yet it’s estimated 1 billion people globally suffer from OSA.

Teeth grinding is often associated with a condition abbreviated as UARS – UPPER AIRWAY RESISTANCE SYNDROME.

Sleep tests reveal UARS is sleep interrupted with frequent respiratory effort related arousals (RERAs). It’s due to higher pressure in the airways that send a message of ‘choking’ to your brain. If you suffer RERAs all night long, your body cannot enter deep REM sleep.

UARS indicates sympathetic FLIGHT OR FLIGHT driven sleep. It is the little sister of sleep apnea, and we need to talk about it.

Imagine the sound of tooth enamel screeching against under 250 pounds of force per inch. That’s what dentists think when they see teeth grinding in patients. For a long time, I would prescribe a night splint to prevent damage to the teeth. Whilst guards can sometimes help, the real way to help a patient is to identify their breathing issue.

Do you or a family member suffer from teeth grinding?

Parent’s will know it, it’s a difficult world to raise a child in.

Sugar is a hard topic for most, we all probably eat too much, but how do we approach managing the issue for kids?

By the time kids get tooth decay, the diet is set, and habits are hard to remove.

Children are the highest consumers of added sugar, even as high-sugar diets have been linked to health effects like obesity and heart disease and even impaired memory function.

The Cleveland Clinic has suggested that Children under 2 should have no sugar.

Why?

1) Blood sugar roller coaster.

Young children who have long-term high blood sugar levels are more likely to have slower brain growth

2) Sugar harms brain development

Chronic high blood sugar may be detrimental to the developing brain of young children.

When sugar hits the brain theirs a reward center it releases a surge of dopamine that makes us feel good initially, but that lift doesn’t last and a child will have to search for more.

3) Addiction style behavior, which leaves children hyperactive, unfocused, and fidgety. Then, shortly after (within an hour or two), blood sugar will drop, leaving children hungry, weak, tired, and searching for the next boost of sugar.

4) Sugar is similar to heavily stressful sitations

Sugar adds up fast, here’s how:

• Cereals are a concoction of sugar and refined flours which break down to (you guessed it), sugar! We need to stop feeding our kid sugar.
• Fruit juices, these will quickly exceed sugar
• Fruit snacks.
• Yogurt snacks or frozen snacks marketed at kids are usually
• For babies fruit purees provide a sugar rush for a young baby. Considering that the Cleveland clinic recommends children under 2 have NO sugar, then it’s hard for parents to discern between ‘healthy’ packaging of fruit based purees. I’ve never given these to our kids.

Personally I’ve found that a few rules to completely remove added (and fruit sugar) from my young kids’ diet.

• Eggs and bacon for breakfast – always
• Whole or fermented dairy
• No bread, biscuits, cereals, pasta to prevent carbohydrate style craving.

Has sugar been an issue in your household?

Teeth will never disappoint you. They show us the purest truths of ourselves. While it's not always pretty, it's always things that we need to know, understand, and become better attached.

Through teeth we're taken to the oldest reaches of humanity, buried within ancient remains of our most distant ancestors, are their jaws and teeth, the last traceable piece of evidence of our origins.

Today scientists are following this story with jaw dropping techniques.

Balls of brain tissue generated from stem cells are enabling us to understand the underlying differences between people who struggle to be sociable and those who have difficulty reining themselves in.

Eventually, they can develop as many as six layers of cerebral cortex – the outer surface of the brain. This region is much more sophisticated in humans than in other animals, and houses important circuitry governing our most complex thoughts and behaviours, including socialising with others.

Each mini-brain is approximately 5 millimetres across. “Though they’re not as well defined as they are in a real brain, they resemble what you find in an embryonic fetus.”

To understand how brain development affects sociability, the team used donated cells from children with autism and Rett syndrome, both of which are associated with impaired communication skills.

They also used cells from children with Williams syndrome, a condition characterised by a hyper-sociable nature. People with Williams syndrome can be unable to restrain themselves from talking to complete strangers.

Mini-brains grown using stem cells from children with autism form fewer neural connections, while those from Williams syndrome children have an abnormally high number.

Researchers report: The differences are striking, and go in opposite directions. In Williams syndrome, one of the cortical layers makes large projections linking into many other layers, and these are important for sociality,”

By comparison, autism-linked brains are more immature, with fewer synapses.
