~~ What is lymphatic filariasis? ~~
• An infection by filarial worms that is transmitted by mosquitoes same as Malaria to people.
• Disease caused by worms that nest in the body’s lymphatic system.
• Can cause body solap (hand, leg, breast, and bol) many years after infection.
• Many people don’t have symptoms or signs of the disease, even though they may have worms circulating in their blood. In a survey in 2015, more than 30% (3 in 10 people) had filarial worms in their bodies in ENBP

~~ How to treat and get rid of the disease ~~
• EVERYONE in the community needs to take these medicines once a year to remove all the worms inside the body and to prevent other people in the community from getting the disease • Three sorts of medicines (IVERMECTIN + DEC + ALBENDAZOLE) are administered to clear worms. If everyone takes medicines, only one or two times will be enough to get rid of the disease!
• The medicines are very SAFE. Hundreds millions of people are receiving the same medicines every year globally. Minor side effects might occur due to dying worms in a body. However, these usually resolve within a couple days. Trained individuals will be on standby at the health facility near your community if you have any concerns
• The following people should NOT take medicines
　　- Children 0 and 1 year of age
　　- Pregnant women
　　- Breast feeding mothers in the first 1 week
　　 after giving birth

~~ How to access this free treatment ~~
• The campaign will be held 4th - 10th, April this year
• The treatment is FREE of CHARGE
• These medicines are also effective for scabies, lice and other intestinal worms.
• Treatment can be accessed through distribution booths set up throughout the province. People will also visit door to door.
• Make sure you take the treatments when you receive them by swallowing the little pills and chewing the big pill.
• The distribution team will mark your finger so that they know you have already taken the pills.
Your cooperation in ensuring that you and your family take tablets during the campaign as it is an important step towards PNG’s efforts in eliminating Lymphatic Filariasis from our precious country.

Medicines to stop Elephatiasis were delivered to 32 health facilities across ENBP. Now, the drugs are ready to be distributed to everyone in the province.

They are free from the 4th - to the 10th of April.

The free marasin campaign will start on 4th April.
