Are You Dealing with Sciatica Pain?
Many experience it—let’s guide you through some helpful exercises and tips to ease the discomfort.

What is Sciatica?
• Pain radiates along the sciatic nerve from your lower back to your legs.
• Caused by a herniated disc or bone spur pressing on the nerve.
• Symptoms: pain, numbness, tingling, weakness.

Sciatica Symptoms
• Sharp or burning pain
• Tingling sensation or weakness in the leg
• Pain worsens from sitting or bending/twisting

Exercise 1: Knee to Chest Stretch
• Lie on your back, knees bent
• Bring one knee to your chest, hold for 30 sec
• Repeat 3 times on each leg
Relieves lower back and hip tension

Exercise 2: Seated Piriformis Stretch
• Sit with feet flat on the floor
• Cross affected leg over the opposite knee
• Lean forward until you feel a stretch, hold for 30 sec
Releases tightness in the piriformis muscle

Exercise 3: Trunk Rotation (Knees Side to Side)
• Lie on your back, knees bent
• Rotate knees from side to side, 15 reps per side
Stretches lower back and hips, relieves pressure

Tips for Managing Sciatica
• Maintain good posture
• Avoid sitting for long periods—take breaks
• Use proper lifting techniques (bend at hips, not waist)

Always Consult a Professional
• These exercises can help relieve pain, but consult a healthcare provider if pain persists or worsens.

Meet Jacqueline Becks Varpiam, a patient who came to us after a knee injury she had suffered while playing netball, which she had lead to her undergoing surgery.

Her rehab is going smoothly, she’s able to walk now after being on crutches. Doing small movement exercises at home is important to help improve mobility and keep your muscles active.

Do you suffer from Pelvic Floor Dysfunction/ Weakness ?

Do you sneeze, laugh, or cough with the fear of leaking a little urine?
Pelvic floor problems are common and can happen to anyone. 25% of women over 20years of age have pelvic floor dysfunction and are more common in post partum women and menopausal women.

What are The Pelvic Floor Muscles?
A group of muscles located between the tailbone and the p***c bone within the pelvis (hammock). They support the bowel, bladder, uterus (as well as the va**na)
They are important muscles that prevent organ prolapse (fallout) and important in sexual function.

What causes the weakened Pelvic Floor Muscles?
A change in the PFM by pregnancy, childbirth, obesity, chronic constipation, trauma or some unknown causes and menopause. Post menopausal women have lower estrogen levels which may weaken supporting ligaments of the pelvic floor organs.

How to improve your PFM (Zero equipment needed!)
Kegel Exercise: (Anywhere, Anytime)
1. Find the right muscles
-Imagine stopping your urine midstream or holding gas
2. Squeeze the muscles
-Hold 3-5sec
-10reps x 3times daily
3. Breathe normally
-Relax stomach, thighs, buttocks

When to Do these exercises
• During pregnancy to prevent weakness
• After childbirth for faster recovery
• To help with bowel and bladder control issues
• To enhance sexual function
