The new state of the art cancer facility is aiming for completion by September this year. This will be a significant milestone achievement for PNG as a nation, especially when the nation will observe its 50th year as an independent state. The management and staff of PMGH are working closely with the contractor to make sure the project is finished on time.

The harsh reality of the cost of hemodialysis weighs heavily on those with chronic kidney disease. In a struggling economy, the burden of K46,800 per year is a heavy price to pay for survival. Let's take care of ourselves and each other in the face of this financial struggle. πŸ₯ΉπŸ’”

It was so unfortunate that PNG health advocate couldn't set up its station at Forum Square due to unforeseen circumstances.
PNG health advocate is composed of most of the resident doctors at PMGH, and we couldn't get things done on time.
We will participate bigger and better next year πŸ‡΅πŸ‡¬πŸ€πŸ«‚

PMGH is currently building a comprehensive cancer center expected to be open around September 2025. At the same time, Angau Hospital is currently resurrecting it’s radiotherapy service this year. The public may think that at last this will solve all our cancer problems. Let me remind you all that Cancer will only be cured if you present early to the hospital. If you present late, we will never help you to fix your problem despite us having a comprehensive cancer center. Below is a response to me from one of the best cancer hospitals in the world that we often refer our cancer patients to. I have advised many of my patients that they have end stage cancer, and going overseas to seek further treatments will not help much. They still want to go. The response below is the reality.

β€œGood morning, Dr. I found that most referral cancer cases are at a very critical and complicated stage; the recovery was poor even after they had done the surgery and chemo or radiotherapy. Actually, our hospital may not cure those patients but only extend a few months of lives, and patients will spend a lot of money. If they can be referred to us at an earlier stage, the recovery will be much better. So kindly educate patients that if they want treatment overseas, they do it as early as possible”

Pouring my heart and soul into this thankless job, but it never seems to be enough. The sacrifices made, the late nights, the endless stress - all for what? The weight of this burden is crushing, but I carry on because it's the only way I know how. The life of a healer is both fulfilling and heartbreaking, a constant battle between dedication and despair.

Recognizing the signs and symptoms of a stroke is crucial for timely medical intervention, which can minimize potential brain damage and improve outcomes. Here are the key signs to watch out for, often summarized by the acronym FAST:

1. Face Drooping:

One side of the face may droop or feel numb. Ask the person to smile; if one side of their smile is uneven or drooping, it could be a sign of a stroke.

2.Arm Weakness:

One arm may become weak or numb. Ask the person to raise both arms; if one arm drifts downward or is unable to move, it could indicate a stroke.

3. Speech Difficulty:

Speech may become slurred or difficult to understand. Ask the person to repeat a simple sentence; if they have trouble speaking or pronouncing words correctly, it could be a sign of a stroke.

4.Time to Call Emergency Services:

If you observe any of these signs, it's essential to act quickly. Time is critical in stroke treatment, so call emergency services immediately if you or someone else experiences symptoms of a stroke, even if the symptoms seem to improve or disappear.

Additionally, other signs and symptoms of a stroke may include:

- Sudden severe headache with no known cause
- Trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance, or coordination
- Sudden confusion, trouble understanding or speaking
- Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes
- Sudden numbness or weakness in the face, arm, or leg, especially on one side of the body

Remember, not all strokes present the same way, and symptoms may vary depending on the type and location of the stroke. If you suspect a stroke, don't waitβ€”seek immediate medical attention. Acting fast can save lives and prevent long-term disability...
