Clean Water and New Opportunities Reach Silosilo Through Women-Led Project

The Kakatilotilo Women’s Association rolled out a Water Solutions and Skilled-Based Training project across Silosilo Ward in Suau LLG, bringing much needed water infrastructure and livelihood support closer to communities.

Following the project launch, water tanks, sewing machines, and baking ovens were delivered to several villages. The Silosilo site was completed, with guttering installed at the Kakatilotilo Learning and Resource Centre. In Taboina, the community completed the foundation work and began preparing the building for gutter installation, while groundwork started at the Soeata site.

Looking ahead, skills based training activities were scheduled and began in February, alongside plans formally marking the completion of water tank installations. These activities expanded opportunities for income generation while improving access to clean water across the ward.

Community response to the project was overwhelmingly positive. Residents spoke of the daily challenges of securing water, especially during the dry season, and expressed pride in seeing a locally led women’s association driving tangible change. The project was widely seen as a step forward for water security, health, and sustainable livelihoods in the area.

THURSDAY CHECK-IN

Self-Sabotage: Patterns That Hold Us Back.

Have you ever promised yourself that you would change a behaviour that has gotten you into serious trouble or put you at risk, only to repeat it again? You might find yourself asking, “Why do I keep doing this?” or “How does this keep happening to me?”

These questions often arise when you feel trapped in patterns of behaviour that create problems in your life. even when you try to make changes and break these patterns, you somehow end up in the same place again and again.

We self-sabotage all the time. Self-sabotage refers to behaviours or thought patterns that hold us back and prevent us from doing what we truly value or want to do.

Successful LEED Training of Teachers Delivered in Wau

The Literacy Enrichment and Education Development (LEED) program by Digicel PNG Foundation has completed another round of teacher training focused on strengthening early grade literacy through Bilum Books. Bilum Books provide PNG context and scripted lessons aligned with the PNG Early Grades Standards Based Curriculum and support consistent teaching of reading, writing, and classroom learning activities.

The training focused on equipping elementary teachers with practical skills to integrate Bilum Books into daily teaching and learning. Teachers also received LEED kits, including teacher guides, student activity books, phonics resources, and other classroom support materials to strengthen lesson delivery.

This extension phase builds on a pilot that reached 30 schools in Wau Urban and Wau Rural last year. The current rollout expanded to 40 schools, mainly in Waria LLG within Wau–Waria District, Morobe Province. Although the training was scheduled for Gairana, access challenges prevented delivery at the planned location. Despite this, 37 dedicated teachers managed to attend the training and collected their materials.

More than 3,600 students from Prep to Grade 2 across the 40 schools in rural Waria LLG of Wau District will benefit directly from this rollout of LEED resources.

The program is co-funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade through the Foundation’s program and supported by the Wau-Waria District Development Authority. Leadership support from Hon. Marsh Narewec strengthened the partnership and helped extend delivery into rural schools.

This phase was funded by DFAT at a value of over K160,000. The results reflect the impact of coordinated partnerships in reaching remote schools and improving early literacy outcomes in line with national education priorities and the “Leave No Child Behind” direction.

THURSDAY CHECK-IN

Every Day Is a Chance to Realign with What Matters

As you go through your day, you’ll notice all kinds of thoughts, feelings, and urges pulling at you. Some will lift you up. others might drag you off track. What really shapes your life is what you choose to do next.

Try pausing before you react and ask yourself: Will this move me toward what’s important, or away from it? Am I willing to let go of the discomfort and choose what aligns with my values?

Pick one small, meaningful action today that reflects the kind of person you want to be. Then check in with yourself throughout the day: Are my thoughts or actions helping me? If not, I can let them go.

Your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are connected. When your choices line up with your values, life feels clearer, lighter, and more grounded. A little awareness each day can steer your life in a healthier direction.

Reach out for support. Talk to someone you trust, someone who can truly listen to you without judgment.
