✨ Giving Back to Iopara Primary School ✨

Mt Sinai Reuel, a proud Digicel staff member and former student of Iopara Primary School in Abau, Central Province, has come full circle. Through the 3L Staff Grant initiative, which empowers employees to give back to the communities that shaped them, he donated two boxes of books to the school that played a pivotal role in his early education.

Seeing the need for better learning resources, Mt Sinai applied for the grant with a clear goal: to boost reading skills and inspire a love for learning among students. On August 14, 2025, he personally delivered the books, which he sourced from Christian Books Melanesia, who distribute Bilum Books, bringing smiles, stories, and new opportunities to the classrooms of Iopara and the teachers as well.

Principal Mrs Rose Wavuri says, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. And this is a true example shown by one of our former students, of giving back and investing in the next generation.” 🌟📖

THURSDAY CHECK IN

Are you in a toxic relationship?

Sometimes the deepest wounds aren’t physical; they’re caused by words, silence, control, or manipulation that slowly chip away at your confidence and peace of mind.

Toxic relationships can be hard to spot, especially when love or loyalty clouds your judgment. You may feel anxious, emotionally drained, or like you're constantly walking on eggshells. These relationships aren’t limited to romantic partners, they can exist in families, friendships, or workplaces.

If you’ve ever questioned whether what you’re experiencing is normal, know that you’re not alone. Recognizing the signs is the first step toward healing. Reach out, talk to someone you trust, and take back your peace.

Coping Skills: Tools for Tough Times

We’ve all faced moments that test our strength, times when we feel overwhelmed, uncertain, or stuck. How we respond can make all the difference. Sometimes we do the best we can with what we know, but imagine having tools that help us cope better, feel stronger, and bounce back faster.

During difficult times, our inner voice becomes louder. Unfortunately, it’s often negative, which can deepen stress and affect how we think, feel, and act; sometimes without us even noticing.

Coping skills are strategies we use to manage stress and emotions. Some are healthy and help us grow, while others may offer short-term relief but harm our wellbeing in the long run.

The good news? Coping skills can be learned and strengthened. With the right tools, we can build resilience and face challenges with confidence.

Foundation Supports Safe Motherhood

In Goroka’s rural communities, expectant mothers often travel long distances for care, many with high-risk pregnancies and nowhere safe to stay. Digicel PNG Foundation saw this and have given a funding of K100,000 to support the expansion of the Waniati Maternal Waiting Home, a vital facility that offers prenatal care and shelter for mothers from remote villages.

The new building will reduce overcrowding, improve living conditions, and help prevent the spread of diseases like tuberculosis.

This project, in partnership with Waniati Development Association, will benefit over 100 mothers giving them a safe space to wait, rest, and prepare for delivery with dignity and care.

“We are proud to receive the award from the Digicel PNG Foundation Community Grants Program, which we are using to enhance our capacity at our Okiufa facility. We thank the Digicel Foundation for their ongoing partnership and commitment to building a better Papua New Guinea,” said Victor Timothy, Founder of Waniati Development Association.

Waniati recently marked a major milestone as it welcomed its 1000th mother and celebrated 5 years of service supporting maternal health across the province.

💗 Digicel PNG Foundation is proud to stand with communities, ensuring every mother and baby has a safer start.

THURSDAY CHECK IN!

Loneliness isn’t the absence of people; it’s the absence of connection.

"I’ll never forget that day; I was surrounded by people, yet I felt completely alone."

Have you ever felt that way? In a room full of family, friends, or colleagues, yet somehow deeply isolated? It’s a powerful reminder: loneliness isn’t always about being alone. Sometimes, it’s about feeling unseen, unheard, or misunderstood, even in a crowd.

True connection goes beyond presence. It’s about emotional closeness. And often, the person who seems fine on the outside might be silently struggling within. Let’s be more mindful not just of our own emotional needs, but of those around us. A little empathy can go a long way.

🌞 Lighting Up Learning in Eastern Highlands!

In the heart of the Hogave Conservation Area, surrounded by 20 square kilometers of untouched rainforest, sits Bowaro Primary School which is a place where over 500 children dream big, despite having no electricity.

Thanks to the Hogave Conservation Centre, those dreams are about to shine brighter. With a funding of K50,000 from the Digicel PNG Foundation’s community grant program, the Centre is working to install a 5KW solar power system at the school. This means longer study hours, access to digital learning tools, and a safer, more connected learning environment.

Founded in 1987, the Hogave Conservation Centre has always stood for sustainability and community empowerment. This solar project is another step toward a brighter, greener future for the children of Bowaro.

Papa village embraces Solar Light Power 💡

This year, Digicel Foundation reignited its commitment to community empowerment through the launch of the 3L Staff Grants Program, an initiative inviting employees to become agents of change in their local areas.

Gata Nao, who has been working for more than 15 years with Digicel has decided to give back to his community by purchasing 11 solar-powered street lighting for his village in Papa, Central Province.

“We will begin by installing high-quality solar lights at key locations at the Resource Centre, Courthouse, and Church. These lights will make a real difference at night. With the support of our local Councilor, we will also hold an awareness session to help the community understand the benefits of solar lighting and take ownership of maintaining the system,” he explained.

Foundation Acting CEO, Valda Kereu officially handed the equipment to Gata witnessed by the church and community leaders.

“Congratulations, these solar lights will ensure safe, reliable and sustainable illumination that will mitigate the impact of frequent blackouts, support evening activities and promote environmental stewardship.”

Through this initiative, Digicel PNG Foundation continues to create grassroots impact, driven by the passion and vision of its people.
