My First ANC Visit Checklist (Mama’s Guide)

"Go redi long lukautim bebi!"

To make your first visit easy and helpful, try to have these things ready:

1. Important Items to Bring

[ ] Green "Buk Bilong Mama" (If you have one from a previous baby. If not, the nurse will give you a new one).
[ ] Identification: Any ID card or just your full name and village/ward details.
[ ] Support Person: Bring your husband, partner, or a trusted sister/friend for support.
[ ] Small Snack & Water: Sometimes the wait at the clinic can be long.

2. Questions to Ask the Nurse
Don't be shy! The nurses are there to "stiaim" (guide) you. You can ask:

[ ] "How is my baby growing?"
[ ] "When is my baby’s expected birthday?"
[ ] "How does the HIV/STI test protect my baby?"
[ ] "What foods should I eat to stay strong?"
3. What to Expect During the Visit
Testing: The nurse will do a simple blood test for HIV, Syphilis, and malaria. This is normal and safe.

Measurements: They will check your weight and blood pressure.

Medicine: You might receive iron tablets or "Mala-1" to keep you and the baby healthy.

💡 Pro-Tip for the Community:

"Namba wan visit em i winim olgeta." (The first visit is the most important). Encourage mothers to go as soon as they know they are pregnant—ideally - before 3 months (12 weeks).

Reach the National Response Center team on 7309 6477 and 7924 8900 for referral pathways.
