So much promise has been dished out by successive governments since independence for protection of businesses reserved for Png nationals. There is so much rhetoric without teeth.
One of this is:
Yes, security services are listed as a reserved activity for Papua New Guinean citizens.
The government, through the Investment Promotion Authority (IPA), has a Reserved Activities List (RAL) that identifies business sectors and activities exclusively for citizen-owned enterprises. This policy is a key part of the government's strategy to promote local participation and empower small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the country.
The list of reserved activities, which was expanded in 2022, explicitly includes security firms and other related services. This means that foreign-owned businesses are generally not permitted to operate in this sector. The purpose of this regulation is to protect local businesses from foreign competition in areas where citizens have the capacity and skills to operate.
There mushrooming of foreign owned security firms owned and operated by foreign owned companies. What is the government and it's agency namely IPA doing about it. Wake up governments, you preach about creating RICHEST BLACK NTION OF THE WORLD . To fulfill this dream!******!, you have to TAKE BACK PNG. Otherwise this ambitious slogan remains a dream only for generations. Just become second class citizens in your own country. Wake up Richard Maru, I remember vividly when you first came as minister of trade and industry you promised you have the list for businesses listed for png citizens only and you promised to uphold it. After so many years since you held the position you are in now, what have you done. A DREAM ONLY AS OTHER SLOGANS OF THIS GOVERNMENT?

Honoring Marilyn Pelis: A Legacy of Dedication and Compassion.
With deep sorrow, we remember Marilyn Pelis, a pioneering force in Papua New Guinea's optical care industry. Together with Dr. Korimbo, Marilyn helped establish Sed Optical Eye Care, making them among the first Papua New Guineans to open a private optometry practice. Their shared vision and tireless efforts brought essential eye care services to communities far and wide, changing lives and setting new standards in the field.
To Dr. Korimbo, Marilyn was more than just a colleague. She was like a sister—a trusted friend and partner who stood by his side as they worked together to fulfill their dream of making eye care accessible to all. The bond they shared, grounded in mutual respect and dedication, was an integral part of their success.
Marilyn's impact goes beyond her professional achievements. Her kind spirit, dedication to her work, and genuine concern for the well-being of others left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Her legacy will live on through Sed Optical Eye Care and through the countless lives she touched over the years.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and all those who had the honour of knowing Marilyn. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit and the work she started will continue to guide us. Rest in peace, Marilyn.
