Iwas Paputok, Iwas Disgrasya!

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ Mas mahalaga ang kaligtasan ng pamilya kaysa sa paputok.

Makipagtulungan tayo upang gawing ligtas, tahimik, at masaya ang pagsalubong ng Bagong Taon.

The Northwestern Cagayan General Hospital recently conducted an emergency preparedness program supporting the National Health Emergency Preparedness last December 19, 2025. The Disaster Risk Reduction and Managementโ€“Health (DRRM-H) Unit, headed by Dr. Kennedy Lappay, successfully organized an engaging activity aimed at strengthening the hospitalโ€™s capacity to respond to emergencies and disasters. The program was made possible through the unwavering support of the Chief of Hospital II, Dr. Jasmin Rose Umblas-Maladrigo, whose leadership underscored the institutionโ€™s commitment to safety, resilience, and quality healthcare service.

In her message, Dr. Jasmin Umblas-Maladrigo, Chief of Hospital II, highlighted that the primary goal of the activity is to improve the knowledge and skills of hospital staff and ensure that these learnings are translated or applied into actual day to day lives improving preparedness and emergency response. She emphasized that a well-prepared workforce is vital to safeguarding lives, maintaining service continuity, and strengthening the overall resilience of the hospital. "Tuluy-tuloy and progreso ng NWCGH, malayo na pero malayo pa" as she proudly exclaimed in her remarks.

The activity began with a series of lecture discussions designed to equip hospital personnel with essential knowledge and practical guidance. Topics included the dos and donโ€™ts before, during, and after an earthquake, the phases of an earthquake drill, and the legal bases that explain the necessity of establishing a Disaster Control Organization within health facilities. It was also discussed about the tasks and duties of the Disaster Group Control Team, highlighting coordination, command structure, and decision-making during emergencies. The evacuation plan was also explained to ensure the safe, orderly, and rapid removal of people from hazardous situations such as fires, floods, and hazardous material spills. Emphasis was placed on minimizing injuries, preventing panic, and reducing property damage by following clear evacuation routes and procedures leading to designated safe areas.

The second part of the program features the contest proper, which tested the participantsโ€™ knowledge and learnings. Groups were given different emergency scenarios where they were required to theoretically demonstrate victim triaging, including Basic Life Support (BLS) and Standard First Aid (SFA). This was complemented by a question-and-answer game that reinforced key concepts in an engaging and interactive manner. A feedbacking session followed, allowing participants and facilitators to reflect on the exercises and identify areas for improvement.

Through this meaningful initiative, the DRRM-H Unit reaffirmed the hospitalโ€™s dedication to building a culture of preparednessโ€”where knowledge, practice, and teamwork come together to protect lives in times of crisis.

Team Building 2025: Nurturing Wellness, Creating Gratitude, and Honoring Healthcare Workers

With the full support of our Chief of Hospital II, Dr. Jasmin Rose Umblas-Maladrigo, our team successfully conducted a two-day Team Building Activity (Batch 1 and 2) anchored on the theme โ€œNurturing Wellness, Creating Gratitude, and Honoring Healthcare Workersโ€ on December 15โ€“16, 2025 at Ressieโ€™s Resort, Ballesteros, Cagayan.

This meaningful activity was facilitated by Ms. Sheila Marie Rustia, a registered psychologist of DSWD R2, with the invaluable efforts of the Human Resource Management Unit headed by Mr. Khristoffer L. Birung, Administrative Officer V, whose dedication in organizing and coordinating the event made this activity possible. Their commitment ensured a well-structured, engaging, and impactful experience for all participants.

During the sessions, Ms. Sheila Marie Rustia emphasized the importance of taking time to reconnect with ourselves and with one another, especially in a healthcare setting where work demands are constant and often overwhelming. She highlighted that wellness is not a luxury but a necessity, and that collaboration and cooperation are vital in sustaining a healthy and effective healthcare team.

One of the most moving activities was the reflection on โ€œwhatโ€™s in your bag,โ€ symbolizing the emotional baggage that healthcare workers carry daily. Participants were encouraged to openly express their feelings, share their experiences, and acknowledge the emotional challenges they face. This exercise allowed many to unburden themselves, fostering understanding, empathy, and emotional healing within the group.

The team building activity also comprised of several engaging games designed to strengthen cooperation, teamwork, active listening, and the ability to follow leadership and instructions, reinforcing unity and effective collaboration among participants.

Above all, the activity served as a sincere expression of gratitude and recognition for our healthcare workers, honoring their dedication, resilience, and selfless service. The bonds strengthened and insights gained during these two-day activity will continue to guide us as we work together with renewed purpose, compassion, and unity. ๐Ÿ’™

Abulug, Cagayan โ€” The Northwestern Cagayan General Hospital (DOH-NWCGH) officially inaugurated its new Hemodialysis Center on December 12, 2025, marking a major milestone in the expansion of specialized healthcare services in Northwestern Cagayan. The facility is expected to significantly improve access to life-saving renal care for patients across the province, particularly those from remote and underserved municipalities.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by key national and local leaders, health officials, and hospital stakeholders, reflecting strong multi-sectoral support for the hospitalโ€™s continued development.

Cagayan Provincial Governor Edgar Aglipay underscored the importance of the new Hemodialysis Center in addressing the growing health needs of the region. He emphasized that the facility will greatly reduce the travel burden, risks, and expenses previously faced by dialysis patients who had to seek treatment in distant urban centers.

DOH-NWCGH Chief of Hospital II, Dr. Jasmin Rose Umblas-Maladrigo, highlighted that the Hemodialysis Center currently operates with 14 dialysis stations, with a planned expansion to 22 units to further accommodate the increasing number of patients. She emphasized that the establishment of the center is a result of strategic planning, strong leadership, and sustained coordination with the Department of Health and local government partnersโ€”demonstrating the hospitalโ€™s commitment to strengthening specialty care services under the Universal Health Care (UHC) framework.

In a recorded message, Department of Health Secretary Teodoro J. Herbosa commended the hospitalโ€™s leadership for translating the principles of public service into concrete and impactful health interventions that directly benefit the people.

DOH Undersecretary for Health Services Cluster Area I Dr. Glenn Mathew Baggao highlighted the centerโ€™s vital role in advancing Universal Health Care, noting that the availability of dialysis services in Abulug will ensure timely, equitable, and more affordable treatment for patients while reducing indirect costs such as transportation and lost income.

Congresswoman Baby Aline Vargas-Alfonso emphasized that dialysis treatment should not be a privilege but a basic right, especially for patients suffering from chronic kidney disease who face long-term and costly medical care.

Meanwhile, DOH Region II Director Ferdinand Benbenen lauded Northwestern Cagayan General Hospital for its sustained efforts to expand access to quality healthcare in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas. He encouraged continued collaboration among government agencies and stakeholders to ensure the sustainability and inclusivity of health services.

The inauguration of the Hemodialysis Center stands as a testament to the effective leadership of DOH-NWCGH, particularly under the stewardship of Dr. Umblas-Maladrigo, and reinforces Region IIโ€™s commitment to Universal Health Care by bringing critical, specialized medical services closer to the communities that need them most.
