Northwestern Cagayan General Hospital (NWCGH) Celebrates National Lung Month with Community Screening Initiative.

In support of the National Lung Month and the P.U.L.S.O. initiative, Northwestern Cagayan General Hospital’s Public Health Unit organized a successful free TB screening drive on July 20, 2025, prioritizing early detection and treatment access for underserved communities.

Leveraging a collaborative partnership with the Cagayan Valley Center for Health Development (CVCHD), NWCGH facilitated the deployment of CVCHD’s Mobile Digital X-Ray Unit to conduct TB screenings under proper infection control protocols. Along with the screening is the evaluation and referal of positive findings to RHU's TB DOTS for GeneXpert and treatment initiation.

Complementing the TB screening efforts, NWCGH integrated free HIV health education and voluntary counseling and testing services into the activity. This dual focus underscores the institution’s holistic approach to combating comorbid public health challenges through preventive education and accessible diagnostics.

Northwestern Cagayan General Hospital proudly joined the nationwide celebration of Hospital Week 2025 yesterday, embracing the theme “Hospital: Healthy Workplace for All sa Bagong Pilipinas.” The celebration highlighted the importance of fostering a safe, supportive, and wellness-centered environment for healthcare workers as a foundation for delivering quality patient care.

The event was marked by a variety of engaging and meaningful activities designed to promote teamwork, creativity, and camaraderie among hospital staff. The day kicked off with spirited cheers and yells, energizing participants and setting a lively tone. This was followed by the Slogan Contest, where teams showcased their wit and advocacy for workplace wellness through inspiring messages.

The festivities also featured a delicious Cook Fest, where participants prepared flavorful dishes that reflected both culinary skill and the joy of sharing good food. A vibrant ASEAN-inspired Eco Fashion Show added color and creativity to the celebration, with participants presenting innovative outfits made from recycled materials, blending cultural inspiration with environmental awareness.

In her remarks, Dr. Jasmin Rose Umblas- Maladrigo, Chief of Hospital expressed gratitude to all participants and emphasized that a healthy, motivated workforce is essential in achieving the vision of a stronger, healthier Bagong Pilipinas. In celebration of the 51st Nutrition Month, the Public Health Unit (PHU) of Northwestern Cagayan General Hospital led by Dr. Jayceelyn Gumaru and under the directives of Dr. Jasmin Rose Umblas- Maladrigo, Chief of Hospital; spearheaded a joint health and nutrition awareness program at San Juan Elementary School,Mabuttal Elementary School and Zitanga Elementary School on July 29, 2025. The event was held to promote the importance of proper nutrition and healthy lifestyle habits among school children and the wider community.

With this year’s theme “Sa PPAN: Sama- sama sa Nutrisyon, Sapat Para sa Lahat” the celebration featured a series of engaging and educational activities, including nutrition talks and interactive games. Medical personnel and health educators from the Public Health Unit shared valuable insights on balanced diets, proper hygiene, and disease prevention.

Students from both schools actively participated in the nutrition related activities. These activities were designed to strengthen the children’s understanding of the role of nutrition in their daily lives.

The 51st Nutrition Month Celebration ended on a high note, leaving a lasting impression to all students and reinforcing the shared commitment of schools and healthcare providers to improve child nutrition and public health.
