Graduating students of Batch 2022-2023 from the different units of DMMMSU-SLUC gathered inside the Jose D. Aspiras Hall to attend the Baccalaureate Mass and to receive recognition for their exemplary performance in academic, research, sports, cultural, and other fields of specialization last June 9, 2023.
Both Catholic and Non-Catholic masses were held for Faculty and Non-Teaching Personnel, as well as graduates from elementary, high school, and collegiate programs. There were also two separate venues for each religious sector, with Catholics at the JDA Hall and Non-Catholics at the Multipurpose Hall. Guidance, wisdom, and readings from the scriptures were imparted and shared with blessings and hope for protection of the graduating batch for their future endeavors.
Three of the Magna Cum Laude graduates, Fernando B. Camelon Jr. of the College of Fisheries, Eunice May R. Aguilar of the BS Biology program, and Joanna May F. Ubay of the BTLED Major in Home Economics program, led the procession of academic and special awardees, administrators, and guests during the recognition rites.
On behalf of Dr. Raquel D. Quiambao, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Tjaart B. Estrada, Chairperson of the BS Mathematics program, formally opened the event with a stirring remark for the graduates. He ended his speech with a beaming statement, "Enjoy the recognition of achievements and the bright future that awaits you."
A light-bulb address was then delivered by DMMMSU-SLUC Chancellor, Dr. Joanne C. Rivera, as she inspirited the graduates to "continue the pursuit of academic excellence, to act with integrity, to stay curious, to explore, to innovate, to challenge the status quo and to embrace partnership," as quoted from her statement. Further, she also credited the guidance of the professors in navigating the students through the bright path during their academic pursuit.
To formally introduce the guest of honor and speaker, Dr. Maria Christina B. Bandarlipe, OIC Chair of the BS Biology program, shared words of glory for the esteemed Guest of Honor and Speaker, Dr. Marc Levi M. Tumapang. From grass to grace, Dr. Tumapang shared his story of growth as he clambered up to the social ladder. As a child who had to go to a different school, he had difficulties adjusting to the new environment and making new friends. However, with his great wits, he managed to be a consistent honor student and gathered lifetime friends. Before pursuing his medical career, Dr. Tumapang, a proud alumnus of the DMMMSU-SLUC, graduated Cum Laude in the BS Biology program class of 2016.
Mr. Camelon, who garnered the highest grade point average of the graduating batch, proffered his words of gratitude in his speech and shared his rigorous academic journey. He ended his speech with enlightening words for his co-graduates saying, "While the journey ahead will demand independence and perseverance, let us never forget that we are not alone in this life... Soar high DMMMSU graduates."
To finally conclude the program, Dr. Nona M. Rivera, Dean of the College of Education, offered her heartfelt congratulations to the awardees, graduates, and parents of Batch 2022-2023. She encouraged the students by leaving them a warming word of advice saying, "embrace the future with courage, humility, resilience and a sense of purpose knowing that you carry with you the pride and legacy of Don Mariano Memorial State University."
Heads of the different colleges in DMMMSU-SLUC granted the medals and certificates for the awardees and to their proud parents. The graduates will be back on June 13, 2023 for their graduation exercise. #
