A new long-term study from researchers at Yale University is challenging the common belief that aging always means decline, finding that many older adults actually improve mentally or physically over time.

Using more than a decade of data from the federally supported Health and Retirement Study, researchers tracked changes in cognition and physical function among Americans aged 65 and older.

The study, published in the journal Geriatrics, found that about 45% of participants improved in either cognitive ability, physical function, or both over a 12-year period.

Researchers measured cognitive changes through global performance tests and physical health through walking speed, a key indicator linked to disability, hospitalization, and mortality.

Lead author Becca Levy said the findings suggest mindset plays a major role, with participants who held more positive beliefs about aging significantly more likely to show improvements in both brain function and physical health. | via Fox News
