FLOSSING is one of the best thing you can ever do to take care of your teeth. Flossing every 24 hours (once a day) is imperative for good oral health. It is just as important as brushing, it helps removes the plaque and debris that stick to teeth and gums (decrease the risk of gum disease). It also helps polish the tooth's surface and control bad breath.
Four key elements of proper flossing:
1. WIND: Wind 18 inches of floss around middle fingers of each hand. Pinch floss between thumbs and
index fingers, leaving a one-to two-inch length in between. Use thumb to direct floss between upper teeth.
2. GUIDE: Keep a one-to two-inch length of floss taut between fingers. Use index fingers to guide floss
between contacts of the lower teeth.
3. GLIDE: Gently guide floss between the teeth by using a zig-zag motion. Do not snap floss between your
teeth. Contour floss around the side of the teeth.
4. SLIDE: Slide floss up and down against the tooth surface and under the gum line. Floss each tooth
thoroughly with a clean section of floss.

Tongue Scraping is an oral health hygiene practice that removes bacteria, food debris, toxins and dead cells from the surface of the tongue. Scraping the tongue daily removes any buildup, which if left untreated can lead to bad breath and may house a significant number of bacteria.
Dental research has concluded that a tongue scraper is more effective at removing toxins and bacteria from the tongue than a toothbrush.

Periodontitis means "inflammation around the tooth" it is a serious gum infection that damages the soft tissue and bone that supports the tooth. Untreated periodontitis will eventually result in tooth loss and may increase the risk of stroke, heart attack and other health problems.
Signs and Symptoms of Periodontitis:
- Inflamed (swollen) gums
- Bright red and purplish gums
- Gums that feel tender when touched
- Gums that pull away from the teeth (recede), making teeth look longer than normal
- Bleeding when brushing and flossing
- New spaces developing between your teeth
- Pus between your teeth and gums
- Bad taste in your mouth
- Halitosis (bad breath)
- The patient "bite" feels different because the teeth do not fit the same
Periodontal Disease can be prevented with:
● Daily meticulous removal of plaque by tooth brushing and flossing
● Regular visit to the Dentist (Scaling and Polishing)
● Avoiding of behavioral and environmental risk factors (e.g., smoking, stress, poor diet)

Scaling removes plaque and tartar buildup on your teeth which cannot be removed by simply brushing your teeth. Polishing removes stains and remaining plaque while smoothening the teeth so that dental plaque will not attached easily to the tooth surface.
