No country celebrates and commemorates just anything as intensely as ours since precolonial times. Dedicating months for the Christmas ~season~ instead of a day? Festivals for deities, triumph after tragedy, or bountiful harvest? Extensive, organized rituals for weddings and death? CAMPers, right after you ace your written and move-system examinations, brace yourselves as we return to our roots.

Bear proudly the red, yellow, and blue (despite the current political climate!) while representing your respective tribes. The next few days are filled with events that allow each of us to unleash our capabilities whether onstage or behind the scenes, physically or mentallyโ€”display support or watch on the sidelines if you feel lowkey. Nevertheless, we pose this seasonโ€™s most essential dilemma:

Will the ๐—”๐—ฅ๐—–๐—›๐—˜๐—ฅ๐—ฆ finally aim wisely enough to hit the bullseye?
Will the ๐—ฃ๐—›๐—ข๐—˜๐—ก๐—œ๐—ซ rise from the ashes and burn brightly like never before?
Will the ๐—ง๐—œ๐—ง๐—”๐—ก๐—ฆ harness the power of their trident to reign supreme?
Or will the ๐—ฆ๐—ฃ๐—”๐—ฅ๐—ง๐—”๐—ก๐—ฆ, once again, conquer the conquest for greatness in their robust armor?

Weโ€™re about to wage a battle among each other, we know. But upon reaching the end of all activities, we will be bound to sing and dance to the tune of victory. Can we count on you to wear the most vibrant hues by then?

This World Pharmacistsโ€™ Day, we celebrate their expertise, compassion, and commitment to a healthier future for all. ๐Ÿ™Œ As we wrap up today's celebration, let's all take a moment to pause and read the statement of our organization for the 16th World Pharmacists' Day with the theme, "Think Health, Think Pharmacists".

[Statement on the Celebration of 16th World Pharmacistsโ€™ Day]

Today, September 25, the JPPhA-AUF Chapter proudly joins pharmacists, pharmacy students, and pharmaceutical organizations worldwide in celebrating the 16th World Pharmacistsโ€™ Day. Established by the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), this annual commemoration affirms the indispensable role of pharmacists in healthcare. Guided by this yearโ€™s theme, โ€œThink Health, Think Pharmacist,โ€ we recognize that every step toward better health begins with the expertise, care, and commitment of pharmacists across diverse fields.

Pharmacists serve as guardians of health and pillars of stronger communities. They ensure the safe and rational use of medicines, empower patients through counseling, and promote preventive healthcare practices. As the most accessible frontliners, pharmacists extend compassion and reliable guidance, proving their vital role in building healthier, more resilient societies. Yet, challenges still persist in the Philippine setting. Workforce shortages, migration, and limited infrastructure hinder access to professional care, especially in underserved areas. Issues such as the Physician Dispensing Act, weak regulation on medicine sales, and misconceptions that reduce pharmacists to โ€œtindera ng gamotโ€ undermine the professionโ€™s true value. These realities highlight the urgency of enforcing Republic Act No. 10918, the Philippine Pharmacy Act, to protect and elevate pharmacy practice and ensure access to quality pharmaceutical care.Equally pressing is the lack of government budget allocation for health and education. Insufficient funding leaves hospitals unequipped, communities underserved, and many Filipinos unable to afford proper treatment. A stronger health system requires investment in knowledge, training, research, and accessible services โ€” priorities that must not be delayed.

Alongside the UPPhA Student Council and Junior Chapters of Philippine Pharmacistsโ€™ Association nationwide, we echo the call for greater state support in advancing health and education. As future healthcare leaders, we believe that healthcare must be anchored on accessibility, equity, and service to the Filipino people. Guided by the values of being MABUTI, MAGALING, AT MAY MALASAKIT SA KAPWA, we remain committed to dosing endless horizons and shaping competent, ethical, and compassionate pharmacists for the nation. On this World Pharmacistsโ€™ Day, we call on students, educators, healthcare professionals, and leaders to stand with us in advancing a healthcare system that uplifts both patients and providers.

Think Health, Think Pharmacist!
Long live the pharmacists! Long live the Pharmacy! ๐Ÿ’Š๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’œโœจ

[STATEMENT FOR WORLD PHARMACISTS DAY 2025]

The UPPhA Student Council is united with the batches and organizations of the UP College of Pharmacy, and Junior Philippine Pharmacistsโ€™ Association Chapters across the country, celebrating the World Pharmacists Day 2025!

Every year on September 25, we celebrate World Pharmacists Day as global affirmation of our distinctive and important role in the healthcare and community setting. Established by the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), today marks its 16th year, advocating for โ€œThink Health, Think Pharmacist" โ€” promoting the roles of pharmacists in strengthening health systems and delivering equitable healthcare, while engaging in various health services such as patient counseling and public health activities that educate communities on health literacy.

The Philippine pharmacy field is not an exception to the global challenges that pharmacists face, such as workforce and financial shortages. These are manifested in the lack of healthcare infrastructure, health products and technologies, research, and most especially education. In the many progress and development of the national pharmacy field, we recognize that our vision goes beyond, but our goals are limited without a strong foundation of knowledge and financial support. This budget season, we join the Systemwide Day of Action that calls for higher budget subsidies for health and education. It is only with proper budget allocation that pharmacy students and healthcare professionals can establish a sustainable health system.

In recent months, the Philippine pharmacy field has experienced threats in its practice with the proposal of House Bill 10680: Physician Dispensing Act and the Department of Trade and Industryโ€™s proposal that encourage sari-sari stores to sell over-the-counter medicines. While there is intention of medicine accessibility to Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAs), these initiatives undermine the indispensable role of pharmacists as frontliners in medication counseling and pharmacovigilance โ€” as stipulated in the Republic Act No. 10918: Philippine Pharmacy Act. Short-sighted measures are harmful to the safe, rational, and informed use of medicine - further preventing the goal of sustainable health systems.

The UPPhA Student Council, the JPPhA-Alpha Chapter, as an author of the Resolution No. 2025-027 or A Resolution To Confront The Philippine Health Crisis By Demanding A Higher State Subsidy For Health, Rejecting The Commercialization Of Healthcare, And Reorienting The National Health System Towards Primary Health Care, has a long-standing call to demand proper budget allocation for the healthcare field and education. We firmly believe that these two sectors are essential to achieve our goal of universal, quality, and accessible healthcare services.

On World Pharmacists Day, we urge the education and health sector, youth organizations, student councils, and pharmacy professionals to stand with our calls and demands for higher state and budget subsidies for health and education for a progressive future for the nation.

Think Health, Think Pharmacy. Long live the pharmacy!

On the 16th World Pharmacists Day, we celebrate the vital role of pharmacists as partners in healing, advocates for the safe use of medicines, and champions of accessible care. But true celebration means more than recognition. It means confronting the struggles that hold the profession back so that we can fulfill our roles better.

Today, we acknowledge the challenges we face: workforce shortages, insufficient subsidies for health and education, and the growing threat of healthcare commercialization. In response, we stand together as one profession, demanding better conditions and a stronger foundation for the sectorโ€” ๐‘›๐‘œ๐‘ก ๐‘œ๐‘›๐‘™๐‘ฆ ๐‘ก๐‘œ ๐‘ข๐‘๐‘™๐‘–๐‘“๐‘ก ๐‘กโ„Ž๐‘’ ๐‘โ„Ž๐‘Ž๐‘Ÿ๐‘š๐‘Ž๐‘๐‘ฆ ๐‘๐‘Ÿ๐‘œ๐‘“๐‘’๐‘ ๐‘ ๐‘–๐‘œ๐‘›, ๐‘๐‘ข๐‘ก ๐‘ก๐‘œ ๐‘ข๐‘๐‘™๐‘–๐‘“๐‘ก ๐‘กโ„Ž๐‘’ โ„Ž๐‘’๐‘Ž๐‘™๐‘กโ„Ž ๐‘œ๐‘“ ๐‘กโ„Ž๐‘’ ๐‘๐‘’๐‘œ๐‘๐‘™๐‘’ ๐‘Ž๐‘›๐‘‘ ๐‘กโ„Ž๐‘’ ๐‘›๐‘Ž๐‘ก๐‘–๐‘œ๐‘› ๐‘Ž๐‘  ๐‘Ž ๐‘คโ„Ž๐‘œ๐‘™๐‘’.

Silence is not an option. Neutrality is ignorance. We must call for action.

Fifty-three years since the declaration of Martial Law, we remember a regime built on lies, corruption, violence, and an ultimate abuse of power. Today, history is once again being made as Filipinos rise to exercise their freedomโ€”flooding the streets with cries for justice, transparency, and accountability.

We, the student journalists of the Angeles University Foundation (AUF), stand firm with our fellow Filipinos who opt to rise against corruption, greed, and tyranny in all its forms. The rage of the past fuels the outrage of the present.

Billions were stolen. Lives were oppressed. Freedoms were crushed under Martial Law. These injustices echo today in ghost flood control projects, negligence disguised as governance, and corruption that leaves our nation drowningโ€”both literally and figuratively.

With the 1.9 trillion allocated budget to the Department of Public Works and Highways, countless are confirmed to be ghost projects, with many more potentially undisclosed. This blatant misuse of funds demands transparency and accountability on the government.

History does not merely repeatโ€”it festers when forgotten and denied. To distort the truth of Martial Law is to excuse todayโ€™s plunder. To remain neutral is to side with the oppressors. To dismiss the cries of protest is to mock the very lessons written in blood and sacrifice.

As student journalists, our duty is clear: confront the abuse of power with truth, amplify the cries of the oppressed, and resist every attempt to bury accountability beneath propaganda. We will not be neutral. We will not be silent. We will serve the Filipino people.

To those who marched before us and to those marching today, we are one in advocating: โ€œ๐‘ต๐’†๐’—๐’†๐’“ ๐’‚๐’ˆ๐’‚๐’Š๐’. ๐‘ต๐’†๐’—๐’†๐’“ ๐’‡๐’๐’“๐’ˆ๐’†๐’•. ๐‘ต๐’†๐’—๐’†๐’“ ๐’ƒ๐’† ๐’”๐’Š๐’๐’†๐’๐’„๐’†๐’….โ€
