โ“Kailangan pa ba natin magpa-IV drip to achieve the recommended Vitamin C intake? โ“

While intravenous (IV) administration of vitamin C bypasses the digestive system and delivers the nutrient directly into the bloodstream, the body's ability to absorb and utilize vitamin C from food is still the way to go! ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿ๐Ÿฅ

Besides, IV vitamin C therapy carries a risk of overdosing on the nutrient. Although large doses are unlikely to cause adverse effects, it can still lead to gastrointestinal discomfort like diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps; heartburn; and headache.

Did you know? ๐Ÿค” The recommended vitamin C intake based on the Philippine Dietary Reference Intakes (2018) is 60mg for female adults and 70mg for male adults.

These recommended amounts can be met from the foods we eat! ๐Ÿฝ๏ธ

Consuming a varied and balanced diet rich in vitamin C-containing foods, mainly from fruits and vegetables, can provide ample amounts of this essential nutrient. Here are some tips:
๐Ÿ“Œ Load up on fruits, especially the citrus and tropical ones!
๐Ÿ“Œ Incorporate green, leafy vegetables into your meals!

Next time you are craving a vitamin C boost, reach for nature's pharmacy and let whole foods work their magic! Load up on colorful fruits and veggies to support your overall well-being. Your body will thank you for it. ๐ŸŒฟ

โ—๏ธโ€œAll fats should be eliminated for a healthy diet.โ€ โ—๏ธ

Is this true?

Today calls for with Reign! ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ

Not all fats are bad for you! In general, fats are needed by the body in order to function properly. It provides concentrated source of energy and plays a vital role in the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins and other nutrients. However, there are different types of fats: there are the good ones, bad ones, and the intermediary ones.

๐Ÿ“Œ The Good: Monounsaturated and Polyunsaturated Fats
- Found in avocados, nuts, seeds, and oily fish
- Supports overall health as these can help lower bad cholesterol levels, reduce inflammation, and support heart health
- Supports metabolic health and weight management as these can help regulate blood sugar levels and improve insulin sensitivity

๐Ÿ“Œ The Bad: Trans Fat
- Primarily found in partially hydrogenated oils used in processed foods like fried foods, baked goods, and margarine
- Raises LDL (bad) cholesterol levels and lowers HDL (good) cholesterol levels
- Increases the risk of heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes

๐Ÿ“Œ The Intermediary: Saturated Fat
- Found in animal products like fatty meats, butter, cheese, and full-fat dairy products, as well as some plant-based sources like coconut oil and palm oil
- NOT ALL saturated fats have the same impact on health, and some may be neutral or even beneficial in moderation (Example: Saturated fats from coconut oil and palm oil contain a higher proportion of medium-chain fatty acids, which have different metabolic effects compared to long-chain saturated fats found in animal products)
- Raises both LDL (bad) and HDL (good) cholesterol levels, so limited intake is still recommended

Do not forget that balance is still key. ๐Ÿ”‘ While the good ones offer numerous benefits, it is still essential to consume them based on your nutrient needs.

Fats do not have to be our foe. Choose wisely for a healthier, happier you! ๐Ÿฅ‘๐Ÿ’ช

โ“Bawal daw i-reheat ang kanin? โ“

I came across this one TikTok video saying that rice cannot be reheated because there is this so-called โ€œReheated Rice Syndromeโ€ ๐Ÿš which is dangerous to our health, and this became a topic of discussion in the web. This term is used to describe the idea that reheating rice can lead to food poisoning due to the growth of bacteria, specifically Bacillus cereus. ๐Ÿฆ

Yes. When cooked rice is left at room temperature for an extended period, it can become a breeding ground for bacteria, including B. cereus. โ—๏ธHowever, the risk of food poisoning from rice comes from improper storage and handling rather than from reheating. โ—๏ธ

In fact, reheating kills the bacteria, although it may not always kill the heat-stable โ€œtoxinsโ€ produced by the bacteria during improper storage and handling. These toxins are the dangers to our health, as this is the cause of food poisoning if consumed.

So, as consumers, โ€˜nugagawen? ๐Ÿค”

Let us emphasize the importance of safe food handling and storage practices to minimize the risk of foodborne illness! Here are some key points:

๐Ÿ“Œ Store cooked rice promptly and avoid leaving it at room temperature:
- Refrigerate it within two hours of cooking and do not leave it at room temperature for more than two hours. Room temperature is within the Temperature Danger Zone (TDZ) where bacteria can rapidly multiply, making food unsafe to eat and can potentially causing illness. Following also the Two-Hour/Four-Hour Rule, if it has been sitting out for more than 4 hours, discard it to reduce the risk of foodborne illness.

๐Ÿ“Œ Reheat rice thoroughly: Using a food thermometer, ensure it reaches an internal temperature of 165ยฐF (74ยฐC) throughout to kill any bacteria present.
No food thermometer? No problem.
- Check that the rice is steaming hot throughout, indicating that it has reached a sufficiently high temperature for bacterial elimination.
- Stir the rice well during reheating to distribute heat evenly, ensuring that all portions of the rice reach the desired temperature.
- Heat the rice for an appropriate amount of time and ensure that the rice has a uniform texture throughout, indicating that it is heated evenly.

๐Ÿ“Œ Practice good hygiene: Wash hands, utensils, and cooking surfaces thoroughly before and after handling rice to prevent contamination.

Also, always remember to consider individual sensitivities. Let us be mindful that certain individuals, such as those with compromised immune systems or underlying health conditions, may be more susceptible to foodborne illnesses and should take extra precautions.

Basta ang mantra dapat natin ay: When in doubt, throw it out! ๐Ÿ—‘๏ธ Look out for signs if the rice is still consumable. Check for any changes in color, texture, and smell. If it shows any signs of spoilage, throw it out!

Ang sarap kaya ng leftover rice for fried rice! Perfect for breakfast, right? Letโ€™s just take precautions and reheat rice the right way.

By properly following food safety practices, we can safely enjoy reheated rice as part of a balanced and nutritious diet while minimizing the risk of foodborne illness.

โ—๏ธโ€œNo rice or low carb diet is the best when it comes to losing weight.โ€ โ—๏ธ

Is this true?

Today calls for with Reign! ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ

While cutting carbs, like rice, can help some lose weight, it's not the best option for everyone. Here's why:

๐Ÿ“Œ Everyone's different: What works for one person may not for another due to factors such as metabolism, body composition, genetic predisposition, lifestyle, and overall health influence how different individuals respond to dietary changes.

๐Ÿ“Œ Nutrients matter: Carbs, including rice, provide essential nutrients like fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Cutting them out can lead to deficiencies. Did you know? ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Under RA 8976 (Philippine Food Fortification Act of 2000), it is mandatory to fortify staple foods with different vitamins and minerals: rice with iron, wheat flour with vitamin A and iron, refined sugar with vitamin A, among others. Why skip our staple foods when we can control how much we eat it?

๐Ÿ“Œ Sustainability is the key: Overly restrictive diets often fail long-term. It can lead to feelings of deprivation, making it challenging to adhere to them over time, and can result in rebound weight gain once the diet is discontinued.

๐Ÿ“Œ Mental health matters: Food choices are influenced by more than just nutrition. Eliminating rice may lead to feelings of deprivation and social isolation.

๐Ÿ“Œ Balance is best: Instead of cutting out rice entirely, focus on a balanced diet with portion control and variety. This approach is more sustainable and promotes overall health.

A personalized, quality-focused approach is best for lasting results. ๐Ÿฅ—๐Ÿ’ช
