Ingredients for a Successful Progressive Rx
There may be some debate in our industry about which factors are the most critical in successfully dispensing progressive lenses. Is it the design? …base curve? …material index?
In my view, it’s perfectly clear: The factors directly controlled by the ECP are still the most important!

Hierarchy of importance:
• Most critical: Proper refraction, fitting height & PD measurement
• Second most important: Base curve selection, progressive design, corridor length, material index
• Nice to have (icing on the cake): Customization, individual wearer parameters

Lens designs have improved far beyond what I ever imagined in the early 1970’s, but one thing hasn’t changed: the ECP is still the most important ingredient in the mix. Technology can never replace a competent and well-informed eyecare professional.
