The Provincial Health Office (PHO), together with Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital (ASMGH), led the flag-raising ceremony yesterday, April 21, with a timely reminder on staying safe during extreme heat.
Dr. Cara J. Uy, Medical Specialist II, gave health tips to provincial employees and the public. She warned about heat-related illnesses like dehydration, cramps, exhaustion, and heat stroke.
“Avoid outdoor activities during peak hours, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.,” Dr. Uy said. “Wear light, loose clothes, stay hydrated, and skip alcoholic drinks. Bring your own water tumblers and aim to drink one to two liters of water a day.”
She also advised staying in shaded, well-ventilated areas and watching over vulnerable groups like children, the elderly, and people with health conditions. She stressed the importance of taking maintenance medicine regularly.
Dr. Uy said to watch for signs of heat stroke, such as confusion, vomiting, fainting, or high fever. Anyone showing these symptoms should be taken to the nearest hospital immediately. She assured that all eight provincial hospitals, which are also Konsulta providers, are ready to assist.
Meanwhile, Mr. Rene B. Oberio of the Provincial Human Resource and Management Office announced the temporary suspension of the mandatory polo shirt uniform for provincial employees. The adjustment, approved by Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao, was in response to a request from the United Provincial Government Employees of Antique (UPGEA), citing discomfort from the uniform during hot weather.
