What are counterfeit medicines?

Counterfeit medicines are medicines which are:

• With the correct ingredients but not in the correct amounts,
• With the wrong ingredient/s
• Without active ingredient/s, and or
• With insufficient quantity of active ingredient/s

It also refers to medicines which are deliberately and fraudulently mislabeled with respect to identity and/or source or with fake packaging and can apply to both branded and generic products.
