Today, March 13, 2026, the official inauguration of our Hemodialysis Unit took place, marking the commencement of its services for dialysis patients in the municipality and surrounding communities, effective March 16, 2026. This significant project, brought to fruition under the leadership of Governor Melchor Diclas, is now complete and ready to commence operations.

Noland Sabling, Chief Social Insurance Officer of the Local Health Insurance Office-Benguet, voiced his support and extended congratulations, affirming PhilHealth's commitment to this endeavor. He also presented the unit's Certificate of Accreditation.

Mayor Franklin L. Smith expressed his profound gratitude, highlighting the substantial benefits this facility will provide to residents requiring ongoing dialysis treatment.

Dialysis patient Leo Cawaing shared his appreciation for Governor Diclas and the Provincial Government, noting that the new unit will alleviate the hardship of long-distance travel for treatment. He also conveyed his thanks to the hospital's medical and nursing staffs.

Dr. Joseph Giovanni C. Frias, Chief of Hospital I, delivered a warm welcome to all attendees during the inauguration. Additionally, Board Member Lady Charmaine S. Molintas-Likigan, Chairperson of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Committee on Health, and Dr. Meliarazon F. Dulay, Provincial Health Officer II, shared messages of support. They underscored the inauguration as a pivotal milestone in enhancing healthcare services and offering dialysis patients a more accessible avenue for continued treatment.

Further support for this initiative was evident with the presence of Dr. Jocelyn Legaspi, PHO I; Dr. Dominga Nazir, MHO; Atok Councilors Marilou Alos-Zarate and Sammy Fianza; Councilor Vicente Kitongan of Buguias; Dr. Eden B. Dangwa, COH of Itogon District Hospital; and Nephrologists Dr. Nichole Domingo and Dr. Tuban, who will be serving at the unit, alongside members of the community.

We also extend our thanks to Fr. George Caslangan for officiating the blessing ceremony for both the Dialysis Unit and the recently renovated hospital laboratory.

We are extremely grateful for the support and participation from the incredible individuals who took part in our Mobile blood donation Activity on the 27th of August, 2025.

General Ultrasound Preparation:
- Wear comfortable clothing.
- Remove jewelries.
- Bring doctor's order or ultrasound request form.
- Follow dietary instructions.

Specific Ultrasound Preparations:
- Abdominal Ultrasound: Fast 8-12 hours.
- Pelvic Ultrasound: Have a full bladder.
- Kidney/Bladder Ultrasound: Drink water and hold urine.
- Other Ultrasounds: Follow specific instructions.

Important Notes:

Update regarding medical assistance thru the MAIFIP Program:

This is to correct the previous statement about the availability of funds for medical assistance under Medical Assistance for Indigent & Financially Incapacitated Patients(MAIFIP) Program.

As per review of our financial records, MAIFIPP funds are still available. Please be informed that patients with complete requirements and classified as indigent or financially incapacitated as assessed by our hospital social worker may avail of the medical assistance under the MAIFIP Program.

According to the Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit of the Provincial Health Office, there have been a total of 702 dengue cases reported in Benguet province from January 1 to May 10, 2025, which is a 41% increase compared to the same period in CY2024. The municipality of Itogon has the highest number of cases with 175, followed by La Trinidad with 104 and Kapangan with 84.

In Morbidity Week 19 (May 4-10, 2025), there were a total of 20 recorded cases. It is important for everyone in our community to work together to prevent and combat dengue. Remember the 4S approach:
- Search and destroy mosquito breeding sites
- Seek early consultation
- Practice self-protection
- Support spraying/fogging efforts during outbreaks

Let's strive to make Benguet a healthier place.

DENGUE CASES UPDATE | From January 1 to May 10, 2025, a total of 702 dengue cases were already recorded in the province of Benguet, 41% higher compared to the same period in CY2024, based on the monitoring of the Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit of the Provincial Health Office. Data show that the municipality of Itogon has the highest incidence with 175 recorded cases followed by the municipalities of La Trinidad and Kapangan with 104 and 84, respectively.
