MY STRUGGLE WITH ANXIETY, DEPRESSION & PANIC ATTACKS & HOW I RECOVERED
This is my story.
It could be yours or story of someone you know.
Most people (especially men) we pride on our masculinity so we don’t share our problems with anyone.
In the long run, it shows up.
It happened to me.
This is my story.
Behind the smiles, handshakes and digital world, deep inside I was struggling.
Behind the Professional titles and church leadership titles was a human being crushing under the weight of anxiety and depression.
And so, my years of bottled-up emotions eventually exploded in April 2022.
I was rushed to Emergency twice on two consecutive days.
All my vitals were fine.
Physically nothing was wrong with me.
But my mind was shutting down.
My body refused to cooperate.
It refused to live. It just wanted to pass out.
I thought to myself, maybe that’s how people who commit su***de feel, that feeling of HOPELESSNESS, that there’s nothing more to live for anymore.
My heart and brain were mimicking heart-attack and stroke symptoms.
I thought I was dying.
Eventually I was referred to a Psychiatric doctor, who diagnosed me with Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD).
I was prescribed Fluoxetine for 14days.
I was also given sleeping pill for 1week because I was having insomnia due to fear of sleeping for good and not waking up.
The medicines helped to control the symptoms for a while.
But the damage was already done.
Symptoms keep coming back every week.
The road to recovery was difficult and painful.
It took me three (3) years to fully recover, because I didn’t know what to do to reach full recovery.
No one told me the blueprint I should follow to recover.
And so out of frustration, I dive deep into research on how to recover fully using natural methods.
During the three years, I did a lot of research on natural healing options for my condition.
I did trial and error on different approaches.
In the process, I learnt a lot on nutrition, exercise & fitness and healthy lifestyle.
I learnt how to calm the nerves when under stress and anxiety.
I learnt how to catch the negative thought and replace it with positive ones.
I learnt the importance of nutrition in recovery.
I learnt what to eat for optimum health, when to eat and in what order to eat to avoid blood sugar spikes & crashes and the type of food to eat to be full for longer hours and not get hungry quick.
I learnt the importance of sunshine, benefits of taking a hike in the forest, or beside the seaside or swimming in the sea.
I learnt what intermittent fasting is and what fasting does to the body.
And many more.
And I’m still learning.
What I experienced and discovered, and what worked for me to recover are documented in my book so that it can help anyone in the world going through similar mental health issues, especially anxiety, depression and panic attacks.
IT HAS KILLED SO MANY MORE.
IT ALMOST KILLED ME.
Don’t take it lightly.
Talk to someone if you’re having suicidal thoughts.
On social media, be careful on the comments you make on someone.
Online bullying has killed many.
Let’s be our brothers’ and sisters’ keeper.
Check up on your friends and family whom you have not spoken to for some time.
You never know, that hello or Good Morning message you sent to him/her maybe be the difference between life and death.
If you have grudges against anyone, forgive quickly.
Ask for forgiveness if you have wronged anyone.
Life is short and unpredictable.
We can die anytime, even today.
