[Second Photo] In 2011, a study titled โThe Effects of Celebrity Su***de on Copycat Su***de Attempts: A Multi-Center Observational Studyโ revealed that emergency department visits for su***de attempts or self-injury significantly increased following the publicized deaths of celebrities.
[Third Photo] More than a decade later, a 2023 systematic review titled โTowards the Influence of Media on Suicidality: A Systematic Review of Netflixโs โThirteen Reasons Whyโโ further examined how media portrayal of su***de can shape public perception and behavior.
[Fourth Photo] In the Philippines, data from the Philippine National Survey for Mental Health and Well-being among Adults showed that 7.85% of respondents reported having suicidal thoughts. These numbers are not meant to alarm, but to underscore the urgent need for psych education to help our communities understand, empathize, and act.
Your Purple Psyched will be sharing previous presentation from National Su***de Prevention Month engagements this week to continue promoting mental health education and awareness. The goal is to create spaces where people can talk, learn, and read about the realities of mental health because the truth is, these struggles are real.
Everyone deserves support, and when it comes to su***de prevention, early understanding and education are always better than being too late.
