Keeping Kids Safe in Extreme Heat: Essential Tips for Parents 🌞👶💧

1️⃣ Stay Hydrated – Encourage kids to drink water frequently and eat water-rich foods like fruits and cucumbers. Avoid sugary drinks and caffeine.

2️⃣ Dress for the Heat – Use lightweight, loose, and light-colored clothing. Apply SPF 30+ sunscreen every 2 hours and use hats & sunglasses for sun protection.

3️⃣ Limit Outdoor Activities – Avoid playtime between 10 AM - 4 PM when temperatures are highest. Schedule outdoor activities in the morning or late afternoon.

4️⃣ Keep Indoor Spaces Cool – Use fans, air conditioning, or cool baths to lower body temperature. Close curtains to block heat.

5️⃣ NEVER Leave a Child in a Parked Car 🚗🔥 – A car’s temperature can rise 11°C in 10 minutes, leading to heat stroke or death. Always check the backseat before leaving.

6️⃣ Know Heat Illness Symptoms 🚨 – Heat exhaustion: heavy sweating, dizziness, nausea. Heat stroke (Emergency!): hot, dry skin, confusion, rapid pulse. Seek medical help immediately.

7️⃣ Protect Infants 👶 – Keep babies indoors, dress them in light clothing, and increase breastfeeding or bottle-feeding to prevent dehydration.

8️⃣ Teach Kids Heat Safety – Encourage frequent water breaks, shade breaks, and recognizing signs of overheating. Make hydration fun with a special water bottle!
