Chairman’s Bedside Rounds incorporated the mini-CEX (Mini Clinical Evaluation Exercise) as part of resident assessment.

The mini-CEX is a structured, workplace-based assessment tool designed to evaluate clinical competence in real clinical settings.

The emphasis is formative, aimed at refining clinical judgment and performance during real patient care.

Our Level 1 OB-GYN residents conducted health education lectures in our adopted community in Prk. Arao, Vista Alegre. The session focused on two core maternal health topics: Anemia in Pregnancy and Family Planning.

The activity formed part of their community exposure training, allowing them to apply clinical knowledge in a public health setting. Through this engagement, the residents practiced communicating medical information in clear, culturally appropriate language while supporting preventive health efforts within the community.

Abnormal bleeding is one of the most common reasons women stop using the etonogestrel implant—even though it is one of our most effective contraceptive options.

The IMPLANET trial provides strong evidence that a short course of Norethisterone Acetate (10 mg daily) can safely and effectively stop prolonged bleeding in implant users. In this randomized controlled trial, nearly 9 out of 10 women stopped bleeding within 7 days, compared to less than half who received placebo. Bleeding also stopped faster, giving women more bleeding-free days in the first month.

Importantly, the treatment was well-tolerated, used in a simple outpatient setting, and supports better counseling, continuation, and confidence in implant use. While bleeding may recur later, this approach offers a practical, evidence-based option to manage a common concern—helping women continue a method that works.

Our heartfelt appreciation to our OB-GYN resident, Dr. Toni Marie H. Chavez, for her outstanding effort, perseverance, and commitment in presenting this unique case entitled, “Ascending Paralysis Revealing Metastatic Uterine Sarcoma.” Indeed, not all neurologic symptoms are neurologic in origin, and not all gynecologic symptoms follow the same rules—a reminder of how humbling and complex our work can be.

We also extend our deepest gratitude to her mentor, Dr. Martha Isabel Parroco, for her guidance, wisdom, and unwavering support.

Above all, we thank God for His goodness, strength, and grace that continue to sustain and empower us in every challenge and victory. To God be the glory!
