ALCOHOL ADDICTION and SUBSTANCE ABUSE KNOW NO BOUNDS

It has been known that Gerard Butler, 56, has maintained over 20 years of sobriety from alcohol since 1997, overcoming early struggles with drinking and, in 2012, successfully completing treatment for dependency on prescription pain medication. The addiction to painkillers was triggered by injuries sustained during the physically demanding filming of 300 and, later, Of Men and Mavericks.

Key Aspects of Gerard Butler's Addiction and Recovery:

-Alcohol Sobriety: Butler previously struggled with heavy alcohol consumption in his early twenties, calling himself a "foot-on-the-floor-all-the-way drinker". He decided to get sober in 1997, before his major Hollywood career began.

He was treated at the Betty Ford Center in California in 2012.

RELAX AND RECOVER.

When in active drug or alcohol addiction, many of us have put relaxation on the back-burner, placing only alcohol or drugs as the number one priority.

During addiction treatment for substance use disorders, you will re-learn the importance of knowing how and when to relax— because relaxation techniques support long term health and wellness. WHAT DOES CROSS ADDICTION MEAN?

Cross addiction, also known as addiction transfer or Addiction Interaction Disorder, is when a person has two or more addictive behaviors. The addictions can include alcohol or other drugs, but can also include addictions to food, gambling, s*x, gaming or other compulsive behaviors.

CAUSES of a CROSS ADDICTION:
a history of substance misuse, underlying mental health conditions, or a lack of healthy coping mechanisms.

INITIAL REMEDIES:
Continuously work with a trained addiction therapist/ counsellor to uncover and process unresolved emotions or traumas.
