𝗧𝗔𝗚𝗨𝗔𝗡𝗚𝗞𝗔𝗡 𝗦𝗔𝗡𝗚 𝗕𝗔𝗥𝗔𝗡𝗚𝗔𝗬: 𝗧𝗮𝗴𝘂𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗸𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝗮𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗸𝗮-𝗮𝘆𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗟𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘀
As we continue to honor the silent heroes of community health, the DILG Bacolod City proudly introduces our fourth finalist—a woman whose compassion and commitment nourished not just children, but an entire community.
𝗥𝗼𝗻𝗮 𝗟𝗮𝘇𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗼
𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮𝘆 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿
𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮𝘆 𝗣𝗮𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗼𝗰𝗼𝘆
In Purok Sto. Niño, Barangay Pahanocoy, access to formal healthcare was once limited, with many residents relying on traditional healers, herbal remedies, and home birthing practices. Change began when Rona Lazarito, a BS Nursing graduate who had worked abroad, chose to return home and serve as a Barangay Health Worker.
With dedication and persistence, 𝘀𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀—𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀, 𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀.
Her efforts gradually reshaped long-standing practices. Today, more women attend prenatal check-ups, families actively consult healthcare professionals, and improvements in sanitation and water safety have been realized.
Most notably, the community now reports zero home birthing cases and a significant decline in tuberculosis incidence—a testament to the power of informed care and consistent community engagement.
