Horizon The official source of updates from Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital. Horizon.

Have you ever gone to the beach, stood still, and watched over the line where the sky and Earth seemed to meet? And as the sun sank beneath that line, have you wondered how far that horizon stretched…or wondered what lies beyond that boundary? A horizon is a boundary of what we can see—a range of what we know, perceive, or anticipate—but our hearts can set our vision where our eyes cannot see. The

official publication of Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital heralds the age of pushing the boundaries of health service delivery as we cast our visions beyond what our eyes can see. And as we embark on the journey of discovering new territories, we break the limits of what we know, what we can accomplish, and what we can be.

DOH Wellness Clinic Opens at SM City Bacolod
By: Catherine Infante, RN - DOH Wellness Clinic Coordinator

The Department of Health-Negros Island Region (DOH-NIR) and Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) are excited to announce the soft opening of the Wellness Clinic at SM City Bacolod on June 30, 2025. With the soft opening now in full swing, the clinic is offering the community a chance to take advantage of free health services ahead of its grand opening on July 8, 2025.

The clinic is open from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, Mondays to Fridays (except holidays). It offers a wide range of services to improve the health and well-being of residents in Bacolod and surrounding cities and municipalities. It is located on the 3rd floor of the SM City North Wing.

The mall-based Wellness Clinic serves as an alternate platform for primary healthcare delivery, helping to close gaps in healthcare access by providing health services in the mall, where many people gather.
Free Services Available:
* General Consultation: Personalized care for general health concerns, providing early diagnosis and preventive support.
* Ob-Gyne Consultation: Free consultation for women’s health, including family planning.
* Nutrition Counseling: Expert advice on healthy eating habits and preventing lifestyle diseases.
* Family Planning Counseling: Support for individuals in making informed reproductive health decisions.
* Pediatric Wellness Counseling: Tailored guidance on children’s health, ensuring they grow strong and healthy.
* Health Talks: Educational talks on lifestyle diseases and emerging infectious diseases, raising awareness and encouraging healthier lifestyles.
* Vital Signs Taking and Physical Assessment

A standout feature of the Wellness Clinic is the Health Lounge — a dedicated, comfortable space designed not just for waiting, but also as a venue for health promotion. Visitors can:
· Read educational materials
· Watch health videos
· Join small group wellness sessions
· Participate in interactive health talks

The lounge also includes a Kid’s Corner to entertain children while their parents consult with health professionals, and a safe space for group discussions that encourage community involvement in health awareness activities.

The first day of the soft opening was graced by colleagues from CLMMRH headed by our Medical Center Chief, Dr. Joan Cerrada, from the Provincial Health Office and Bacolod City Health Office. The event began a significant collaboration to provide comprehensive health services within the heart of Bacolod City.

The establishment of the Wellness Clinic is the result of a joint effort between the DOH Negros Island Region, led by Dr. Kaye Marie Yap, and CLMMRH Wellness Clinic Coordinator, Catherine Infante. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare and promoting wellness in the community.

CLMMRH Advances Geriatric Care Through Transformative Assessment Workshop
By: Jeetre D. Trinidad, DPA

The Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) successfully conducted a two-day Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) Workshop last June 19–20, 2025, with the theme: “Geriatric Assessment in Practice: Equipping Tomorrow’s Physicians for the Aging Population.”

The program was led by Dr. Eirene M. Ayalin, Administrator of the Geriatric Care Center, and Dr. Medelyn B. Bahonsua, the hospital’s geriatrician. It opened with an inspiring message from Dr. Catherine T. Jison, Chief of the Professional Education, Training and Research Office (PETRO), which laid the foundation for two days of meaningful learning and collaboration. The activity was also visited by Dr. Jorge Edward T. Masa, Chief Medical Professional Staff (CMPS), in support of this initiative.

Participants gained valuable insights from two of the country’s leading experts in geriatric medicine:
• Deana Santos-Ringor, MD, FPCP, FPCGM, President of the Philippine Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology, and geriatric specialist at St. Luke’s Medical Center, San Lazaro Hospital, and Manila Doctors Hospital
• Maria Teresa C. Ramirez, MD, FPCP, FPCGM, Vice President of the Philippine Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology, and geriatric specialist at St. Luke’s Medical Center and Veterans Memorial Medical Center

Both speakers emphasized that quality geriatric care requires interdisciplinary collaboration to address the complex needs of the aging population.

The event engaged residents and Post-Graduate Interns (PGIs) from departments including General Surgery, Ophthalmology, Internal Medicine, Orthopedics, ENT, Family and Community Medicine, Urology, and Obstetrics and Gynecology, along with consultants from Family and Community Medicine and Internal Medicine.

Combining lectures with hands-on ward assessments, the activity provided participants with practical experience using the CGA tool—an internationally recognized standard for evaluating the comprehensive needs of older adults. This success was made possible through the guidance and support of the hospital’s geriatric nurses: Reynel V. Reloj, RN, Maribel R. Tecson, RN, Jeetre D. Trinidad, RN, Desiree D. Diel, RN, and Maryjune T. Carinal, RN.

This undertaking demonstrates CLMMRH’s ongoing commitment to equipping future healthcare providers with the knowledge, skills, and compassion needed to care for the growing elderly population.

Renal Care and Transplant Center Hosts 2nd Leg of Bloodletting Activity

In celebration of National Kidney Month, the Renal Care and Transplant Center successfully conducted the second leg of its bloodletting activity in partnership with the CLMMRH Mobile Blood Bank Team, last June 21, 2025. Held at the Reodica hall, the activity gathered patients' families, healthcare workers, and volunteers who came together to donate blood and show support for kidney health awareness.

This life-saving initiative not only aims to replenish blood supplies for patients in need, especially those undergoing dialysis or transplant, but also highlights the importance of community involvement in promoting kidney health.

"Every drop counts," shared one of the organizers, "and through this activity, we are not only giving blood, we are giving hope."

The bloodletting activity is part of a series of events lined up by the Renal Care and Transplant center throughout the month of June, dedicated to educating the public and celebrating the strength of kidney warriors. With each donation, the spirit of bayanihan and compassion continues to flow, one bag at a time.

Maligayang Araw ng mga Manggagawang Panlipunan!

Today, we celebrate the dedication and greatness of our Medical Social Workers. They tirelessly and passionately deliver compassionate healthcare services to our patients, often becoming the bridge between clinical care and human connection.

From case management to providing psychosocial interventions, they navigate referral networks, educate communities, and reach even the most remote areas to deliver essential social services. They find families of unaccompanied patients, connect individuals to halfway homes, facilitate support for the abused, and champion the rights of those experiencing poverty and vulnerability. Their empathy fuels their advocacy, and their courage strengthens our healthcare system.

We appreciate your commitment to human dignity and social justice. Today and always, we honor and appreciate our Medical Social Workers. Padayon, MSWs!

From Cityscapes to Mountaintops: Bringing Compassionate Healthcare to the Ata Tribe of Manara, Cadiz City
By: Mr. Adrian Patricio, RSW - Horizon Correspondent, Medical Social Work Department

In celebration of Filipino Social Workers’ Day, the Allied Health Professional Service Division (AHPSD), composed of the Pharmacy Department, Nutrition and Dietetics Department, Hospital Information Management Department, and Medical Social Work Department, in collaboration with the Public Health Unit, embarked on a meaningful journey on June 14, 2025, to reach the Ata Tribe in Sitio Manara, Barangay Celestino Villacin, Cadiz City, Negros Occidental.

Traveling nearly four hours from Bacolod City, the team traversed winding roads and rugged terrain to reach this simple yet richly preserved Indigenous Peoples (IP) community settled in the mountains. Their mission is to extend not just services but solidarity, care, and respect.

The outreach program delivered essential health literacy education on drug awareness, food safety, dengue prevention, birth registration, and how to access medical social services. In addition, over 180 Ata community members received vitamins, medicines for common illnesses, food packs, slippers, clothes, and water containers, items that, though modest, carry great significance in their daily lives.

Yet beyond the services and supplies, what made this outreach truly unforgettable was the mutual exchange of humanity. Despite the daily hardships faced by the Ata Tribe, and limited access to healthcare, education, and infrastructure, they welcomed the team with warmth, gratitude, and unwavering smiles. Their joy was contagious, their resilience sincerely humbling.

For the team, it was a transformative experience, physically tiring but spiritually uplifting. It was a reminder that true healthcare extends beyond medicine. It is about presence, empathy, and acknowledgment. The team departed the mountains not only having served, but having been inspired by knowing that the Ata Tribe felt seen, heard, and supported.

PUBLIC ADVISORY: CLMMRH Mpox statement

We would like to inform our community that as of June 14, 2025, CLMMRH is currently caring for the first confirmed case of Mpox, which was referred from the Bacolod City Health Office last June 13.

The patient is stable and is receiving appropriate care in isolation, and all necessary infection control measures have been implemented in accordance with public health guidelines.

We are working closely with the Local Health System to provide the appropriate hospital response for people who may need tertiary care.

We want to reassure our patients, staff, and visitors that the risk to the general public remains low. It is not known to be transmitted via the airborne route- meaning across rooms and public spaces.

We encourage the community to remain calm and to stay informed through official health channels.

We encourage sick individuals to seek consultation early especially if they have a rash, avoid close skin to skin contact and not share personal items. We encourage the general public to continue practicing good hygiene and do handwashing frequently.

Discrimination against any disease, including Mpox is not necessary. We urge the public to be vigilant but remain kind towards potentially sick individuals.
