SLU SHMC Department of Surgery is one with the Philippine College of Surgeons, through the leadership of the PCS Cordillera Chapter, in celebrating the week-long 89th Founding Anniversary of the Philippine College of Surgeons witht the vision and aim in providing quality heath care for all. In line with this, the following activities were has been participated by our Department:

We would like to congratulate Dr. Allan Castro for winning 3rd place in the recently concluded 2025 Living Evidence for Impact in the Community Conference held at Taylor’s University, Selangor, Malysia on Sept. 3-4, 2025.

Also, kudos to the Department of OB-gynecology and Department of Pediatrics for acheiving various first place awards for the different tracks and Overall champion (OB-gynecology) for the oral presentation category.

The SLU-SHMC Department of Surgery expresses its profound sorrow and heartfelt to the , , and of Dr. Reynaldo Cariaga—a highly respected orthopedic and a true pillar of the surgical community in the .

As one of the founding leaders of the Philippine College of Surgeons – Cordillera Chapter, Dr. Cariaga played a vital role in establishing a strong, collaborative network of surgeons in the region. His dedication to the advancement of surgical was unwavering, as seen in his decades-long commitment to training and mentoring of both orthopedic and general surgery residents across multiple institutions in the Cordillera.

His passing is a tremendous loss to the medical community, but the impact of his life’s work will continue to resonate. His lives on in the countless surgeons he has trained, the institutions he helped shape, and the many lives he has touched.
