In celebration of its 75th founding anniversary, the Philippine Mental Health Association (PMHA), Inc. relaunched the Liwanag Awards which honor organizations and initiatives that champion mental health across the country. The Liwanag Awards aim to inspire and motivate individuals, groups, and institutions to join the mental health advocacy by recognizing outstanding models, best practices, and champions of hope who illuminate the path toward a mentally resilient society.
Among this year’s nominees, the SLU Sunflower Child and Youth Wellness Center (SCYWC) was recognized as a finalist under the Liwanag ng Kabataan (Youth Mental Health Catalyst) category during the awarding rites held on October 23, 2025, at Seda Vertis North Hotel, Quezon City.
The Liwanag ng Kabataan category celebrates organizations that make a meaningful impact and remarkable contributions to advancing mental health and well-being. Through SCYWC’s programs and services: Psychotherapeutic Intervention and Psychological Assessment; Free Consultation; Advocacy of Children’s Rights Capacity-Building through Trainings, Seminars or Workshops; Developmental Camp; Summer Fun/Art Camp, these initiatives stood out for its impact, innovation, and inclusivity—a true embodiment of what it means to be a beacon of light and hope for the youth. This recognition affirms SCYWC’s continued commitment to promoting the mental health and well-being of children, youth, and their families.
For over two decades, SCYWC has served as a safe and nurturing space for children and youth in need of psychological and psychosocial support, while also functioning as a training ground for mental health professionals and advocates dedicated to the same mission. Being named a finalist in the Liwanag Awards highlights the Center’s efforts to create mentally healthy communities grounded in care, empathy, and collaboration.
SCYWC extends its heartfelt gratitude to everyone who continues to believe in its mission of fostering resilience and well-being among children and youth. As the Center moves forward, it remains steadfast in its vision to strengthen communities where mental well-being, empathy, and resilience can flourish.
In alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, SDG 4: Quality Education, SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, and guided by the CICM Advocacy of Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation, the Center advances the global call to promote mental health, foster inclusive education, uphold equality, strengthen collaboration across communities, and embody Catholic social teaching through the congregation’s commitment to serving the poor, the marginalized, and the environment.
