Ang tuli o circumcision ay isang uri ng operasyon na isinsasagawa sa mga kalalakihan kung saan ang balat na bumabalot sa dulo ng ari ay tinatanggal. Ito ay karaniwang isinasagawa sa maraming lugar sa buong mundo kabilang na ang Pilipinas. Maaari itong isagawa sa mga bagong silang na sanggol ngunit pinakamadalas ay sa mga kabataang nasa edad 9-13 bilang tanda ng kanilang pagbibinata.

BAKIT ISINASAGAWA ANG PAGTUTULI?

Ang pagtutuli ay matagal nang tradisyon na nag-ugat pa sa kultura ng mga Hudyo at Muslim, pati na ang ilang mga katutubong tribo sa Africa at Australia. Maaaring ito rin ay tradisyong pinapasa ng bawat pamilya sa bawat henerasyon, o kaya ay nagsisilbing ring paraan ng pagpapanatili ng pansariling kalinisan (personal hygiene). Bukod pa rito, maaari din itong kailanganing talaga para sa ilang kondisyong medikal.

ANO ANG MGA BENEPISYO NG PAGPAPATULI?

Ang pagpapatuli ay may ilang mga benepisyo na maaaring idulot sa lalo na sa kalusugan ng mga lalaki gaya ng mga sumsunod:

Pansariling kalinisan (Personal Hygiene). Mas madaling linisin ang ari ng mga lalaki kung sila’y magpapatuli lalo na ang bahagi na dating natatakpan ng balat..
Mas maliit na posibilidad ng pagkakaroon ng impeksyon sa daluyan ng pag-ihi (UTI). Ang pagkakaranas ng impeksyon sa daluyan ng ihi ay mas mababa sa mga kalalakihang nagpatuli.
Mas maliit na posibilidad ng pagkakahawa sa mga Sexually Transmitted Disease. Napatunayan ng ilang mga pag-aaral na mas mababa ang panganib ng pagkakahawa sa mga sakit na nakukuha sa pakikipagtalik sa mga kalalakihang nagpatuli.
Pag-iwas sa mga problema sa ari ng lalaki. May ilang pagkakataan na ang balat na nakabalot sa dulo ng ari ng lalaki ay mahirap ibuka o iurong upang mapalabas ang ulo ng ari. Ang ganitong kondisyon ay maaaring magtulot ng pamamaga sa ari ng lalaki na sadiyang nakakabahala. Mas mapapababa din ang posibilidad ng kanser sa ari ng lalaki kung siya ay magpapatuli.
Nakaaapekto ba ang pagpapatuli sa kakayahan ng lalaki na makabuntis?
Bagaman may mga benepisyo ang pagpapatuli, ito’y hindi naman talaga kailangan lalo na kung normal naman na nabubuka ang balat. Hindi rin totoong makaaapekto ito sa kakayanan ng mga lalaki na makabuntis. Wala rin itong koneksyon sa abilidad ng lalaki sa pakikipagtalik sa kanyang kapareha.

ANO ANG MGA MAAARING PANGANIB NA DULOT NG PAGPAPATULI?

Ang pangunahing problema na maaaring maidulot ng pagpapatuli ang ang pagkakaroon ng impeksyon o malalang sugat. Ito ay partikular sa mga sumasailalim sa tradisyonal na pamamaraan ng pagpapatuli. Halimbawa sa Pilipinas, ang tradisyonal na paraan ay ang de-pukpok na pagtutuli na kadalasang isinasagawa sa mga tabing-ilog ng matanda sa isang lugar. Hindi ito rekomendado ng ahensyang pangkalusugan ng Pilipinas, ang DOH, sapagkat maaari nga itong humantong sa impeksyon o kung mas malala pa ay tetano.

SAAN MAAARING MAGPATULI ANG MGA KABATAANG LALAKI?

Ang pagpapatuli ay maaaring isagawa saan mang ospital sa bansa sa buong taon. Ngunit taon-taon, lalo na sa buwan ng Abril at Mayo, maraming programa ang pamahalaan at iba pang mga pribadong sektor na nagbibigay ng libreng tuli. Ang nasasagawa nito ay kadalasang mga doktor, mga nag-aaral pa lamang ng medisina, at mga nurse.
