Last Friday, August 15, 2025, a meaningful milestone unfolded at the Travelite Hotel during the 𝑷𝒆𝒆𝒓 𝑵𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒈𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑺𝒆𝒎𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒓 organized by Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (𝗕𝗚𝗛𝗠𝗖) in partnership with the Persons with Disability Affairs Office (𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗢) Baguio. The event was led by 𝑫𝒓. 𝑲𝒊𝒎 𝑼𝒃𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒐, represented by 𝑫𝒓. 𝑱𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒄𝒆 𝑩𝒂𝒏𝒆𝒛 and 𝑫𝒓. 𝑺𝒂𝒎𝒖𝒆𝒍 𝑨𝒒𝒖𝒊𝒏𝒐 who brought together passionate individuals with a shared mission — to walk alongside cancer patients on their healing journey.

The seminar marked the official formation of the 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗯𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗩𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀—a brave and compassionate group composed entirely of cancer survivors, many of whom are still undergoing active treatment. Under the care and coordination of support group leaders, 𝑴𝒂’𝒂𝒎 𝑴𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒄 𝑩𝒖𝒈𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒐 of 𝑴𝒊𝒏𝒅𝒂’𝒔 𝑩𝒖𝒅𝒅𝒊𝒆𝒔 and 𝑫𝒊𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒆 𝑺𝒂𝒚𝒂𝒂𝒏 of 𝑾𝒂𝒓𝒓𝒊𝒐𝒓 𝒊𝒏 𝑴𝒆, these volunteers have wholeheartedly committed to offering their time, strength, and experience to guide fellow patients at the BGHMC Cancer Center. From detection to diagnosis, through treatment, surveillance, and into survivorship, these navigators will be a source of both practical support and emotional strength.

During the seminar, vital 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 for 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗹𝘀 and 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 were shared by dedicated speakers from various agencies, providing tools and knowledge that will empower our navigators and the patients they will serve:

𝙁𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝘿𝙞𝙖𝙜𝙣𝙤𝙨𝙞𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙃𝙤𝙥𝙚—𝙒𝙚’𝙧𝙚 𝙒𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙔𝙤𝙪 🧡

Cancer is never easy to understand—let alone accept. Medical professionals can explain it in clinical terms, but sometimes what we truly need is someone to speak to our hearts. That’s where patient navigators—and fellow patients—can make a difference. Hearing it in plain language, from people who’ve walked this road before, helps bring clarity and comfort.

The truth is, most of us don’t fully grasp what a cancer diagnosis means until we’ve:
~ spent time on the journey ourselves,
~ learned from others who have gone ahead of us,
~ and slowly come to terms with our own condition.

But you don’t have to walk this path alone.

Let someone walk beside you.
Let someone pray with you.
Let someone believe with you.

📸 The second picture is even more important—a reminder that God loves you, and that your life is in His hands. Whether healthy or facing illness, we all rest in His care. He holds the final word, not the diagnosis.

Hello, Breastie! – the virtual clinic for breast cancer concerns

Hello, Breastie! Online Care Clinic opens regular virtual consultations for breast cancer patients on August 18, 2025.

A brainchild of Dr. Emmeline Cua-De Los Santos, a surgical oncologist and breast surgeon, ‘Hello Breastie!’ aims to establish a comprehensive virtual breast clinic that serves newly diagnosed patients and survivors, offering expert guidance, continuous care, and holistic support via a secure and accessible telemedicine platform.

It is meant to be “a safe and supportive space where care meets courage, and survivors are never alone.” For every woman newly diagnosed, and every survivor finding her strength again—this space is for you.

The online consultations are offered for free and will start on August 18 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Volunteer specialists will be available to see patients who need to consult or get a second opinion. Other services include medical surveillance, rehabilitation and symptom management, mental health services, lifestyle and medicine and wellness, and education and empowerment.

Volunteer doctors such as breast surgical oncologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, plastic surgeons, cancer geneticists, pain specialists, psychiatrists, lymphedema specialists, obstetricians and fertility specialists, nutritionists and oncodermatologists will make themselves available for a couple of hours every month to meet patient needs.
