Womenโ€™s Health in Dermatology: Caring for Your Skin Over the Course of Time ๐Ÿ’œ

Womenโ€™s skin goes through various changes throughout life. Hormones, pregnancy, aging, and lifestyle all play a significant role on skin health. Here are simple tips on how to care for your skin at every stage:

-Teen Years: Manage acne with a gentle skincare routine and sunscreen.
-Pregnancy: Watch out for melasma ("pregnancy mask")โ€”wear sunscreen daily!
-Adulthood: Hydrate, protect, and incorporate anti-aging skin care products which contain antioxidants.
-Menopause & Beyond: Focus on moisture and collagen support to maintain skin elasticity.

Dermatologists help women navigate through hormonal acne, pigmentation, skin aging, and more. Prioritize self-care and regular check-ups to keep your skin glowing through every phase of life! โœจ

November is all about celebrating and prioritizing your skin health. Whether itโ€™s preventing dryness, managing acne, or keeping skin protected from the elements, this is the perfect time to step back and assess if you are giving your skin the care it deserves.

Ask yourself:

1. Am I using appropriate sun protection when going out?

2. Am I eating a well-balanced diet that supports my skin health from within?

3. Am I using the right products for my particular skin type and special skin needs?

4. Have I consulted the proper authorityโ€” a board-certified dermatologist โ€” for skin concerns and disorders not sufficiently addressed by over-the-counter products?

Letโ€™s make November all about being smart and proactive for healthy skin! ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ’ง

Children can feel frustrated and helpless with the constant itch and sleepless nights caused by chronic eczema.

Help your child take control of their skin condition, by keeping these in mind:

1. Find out which moisturizer works best with your childโ€™s skin. There are many products with different ingredients and formulations that have been developed for eczema-prone skin, but individual reactions to them may still vary.
So if one moisturizer leaves you less than impressed, donโ€™t give up! Try the other products with different soothing ingredients, until you find the best one for your child.

2. Try to identify what triggers your childโ€™s eczema. Sweating, harsh cleansers, and stress are common culprits, but some children may also react to pet hair, certain food, and weather changes. Being aware of his/her particular triggers can equip you to plan your childโ€™s activities better.

3. If the rash is getting worse, it is best to consult with your friendly neighborhood PDS dermatologist, to level up on your eczema-fighting armentarium.

Together, we can make life with eczema easier for our little ones! ๐Ÿ’™

As of Sept.11, active cases of Mpox in our country have increased to 15 individuals. Majority (11) of the active cases are from the NationalCapital Region (NCR), while 3 are from Calabarzon and 1 from Cagayan Valley.

The virus is transmitted through close skin-to-skin contact and intimate contact with infected persons.

The rash can start as red bumps with pus, then turn into small blisters with a dry dark spot/ crust in the center. It can develop on the face, hands and other exposed areas, and in intimate areas after sexual contact.

To control the spread of this disease, we must maintain the sanitary practices of proper handwashing and disinfection of possibly contaminated surfaces.

If you have skin lesions that you suspect may be mpox, consult with a board-certified dermatologist or infectious disease consultant as soon as possible.
