This year brought a beautiful discovery — Akisha has shown notably strong, self-initiated reading abilities despite her communication challenges. What began with sight-reading familiar, simple words has grown into her ability to read and follow simple written commands, all without formal instruction.
She reminds us that every child has their own way of understanding the world and their own special strengths. When we take the time to notice and nurture those strengths, incredible things happen.
