Bataan St. Joseph Hospital & Medical Center Corp. launched the year with a dynamic community edition of its "Feed-Your-Mind" Friday Lecture series, held in partnership with the Bataan Medical Society and Balanga City Health Center V. This activity is part of BSJHMC's The JOSEPH INITIATIVE — Waves of Learning Pillar. Under the rallying theme "BE FAST sa STROKE — Kumilos Agad!," the session delivered clear, practical guidance on spotting and responding to stroke emergencies.

Dr. Jose Christopher Custodio (CHC V Physician) steered the program, which opened with a warm greeting from Dr. Angel Aquino, BSJHMC Medical Director. Ms. Jennifer Sucaldito, NCD Coordinator of Balanga City Health Office, introduced Dra. Sheryl A. Manalili, BSJHMC’s in-house internist-neurologist. Dra. Manalili presented an accessible, compelling talk on stroke recognition, immediate actions, and prevention.

Community turnout and participation made the event electric. Special recognition goes to Balanga City Health Center V and the Sangguniang Barangay of Dangcol, Tanato, and Cabogcabog for powering this outreach—bringing vital life-saving knowledge straight to the neighborhoods that need it most. We also extend heartfelt thanks to the Hypertension and Diabetes Club of Brgy. Dangcol; their involvement is especially vital in ensuring stroke awareness and prevention reach those most at risk.

A 76-year-old gentleman with Acute Deep Vein Thrombosis presented a clear mandate: protect the lungs from a life-threatening embolus. The team elected for Inferior Vena Cava (IVC) filter placement, a precise intervention aimed at intercepting thrombi en route to the pulmonary circulation.

Via femoral venous access and under meticulous sterile technique with fluoroscopic guidance, the catheter was advanced through the Femoral Vein to the Inferior Vena Cava (IVC). The filter was deployed in an optimal position, its struts splayed with elegant symmetry—quiet engineering in service of protection.

The patient tolerated the procedure seamlessly; hemodynamics remained stable, and no immediate complications were observed. A small act of prevention; a large margin of safety reclaimed.
