Measles, a highly contagious and vaccine-preventable viral illness, causes symptoms like high fever, rash, cough, and red eyes. It spreads through respiratory droplets when an infected person breathes, coughs, or sneezes.
The virus can survive in the air or on surfaces for up to two hours. Infected individuals can transmit the virus from four days before the rash appears to four days after. While there’s no specific treatment, the MMR vaccination is highly effective in preventing measles. Complications can include pneumonia and brain swelling.
On March 16, 2026, the Bangar Municipal Health Office Team conducted an Outbreak Response Immunization at Barangay Agpeppa for eligible individuals who missed their MCV1 and MCV2 vaccinations.
The MMR vaccine is the safest and most effective method of prevention. Two doses provide approximately 97% protection.
We strongly encourage parents to ensure their children receive the MMR vaccine. Without it, measles can lead to widespread outbreaks, as it remains a prevalent disease in many parts of the world.
