When was the last time you get your dogs vaccinated?
For anti-rabies specifically?
Few days ago,I had an unfortunate encounter with a 50year old something female who was bitten by a neighbor's dog 3weeks prior to the appearance of her symptoms. 5days before the patient was brought to the medical facility, she complained of body malaise, poor appetite and thought it was just the common colds/trangkaso. However, on the day she was brought to the facility, her condition worsened, she had shortness of breathing, very agitated and disoriented, she was so "mad with air" and was literally afraid of water.
All signs and symptoms plus the dog bite history pointed to RABIES.
The Dog?
It was killed by the owner 3 days after it had bitten the patient because it was showing signs of aggressiveness, according to the watcher. So there's no way that we can observe the dog for at least 14days as dictated by our protocol.
Sadly, the patient expired in less than 24hrs.
Her family was fuming with anger because we weren't able to save her. When we asked them if they are amenable to referral to higher level facility, they refused and opted to bring the patient back home, which I strongly disagree and so with our Infection Control team and the LGU (since rabies is a reportable disease).
With all honesty, even if the patient was transferred to SPMC, still she wouldn't survive and still, there's is nothing even the brightest physician can do since it was already on the late stage of infection. The rabies virus was already disseminated to the other organs and to the cerebrospinal fluid. It was already too late.
We don't want this to happen.
RABIES is also a disease to the dogs (and other warm blooded mammals). It is important that your pets get the shot regularly.
And if by accident you get bitten, here's what you should do:

1) Immediately wash the bitten area with soap and running water. Do not pinch the wound.Do not put any herbs. Just wash to get rid of the virus.

2) Go to the nearest clinic or RHU or Animal Bite Center. They will assess your condition and will give you appropriate treatment.Do not go to the quacks or tandok. They will do more harm. Imagine the tandok puncturing your skin trying to catch the rabies...you will only get TETANUS on top of RABIES (and a HUGE HEADACHE for your doctor)

3)DO NOT KILL THE ANIMAL. Observe. At least for 14days. As what I've said, rabies is also a disease to the animals. It is not a natural organism to them. So if they have rabies, they will also manifest the disease.

I hope my post can be of some help.
Love your animals, get them vaccinated. Bath them once a week (for dogs;I don't know with cats, sorry😉).Feed them well.
Lastly, do not get a dog or any animal if you can't take care of them.

Are you Hypertensive?
When was the last time you check your blood pressure?
Oftentimes you hear someone say "Dili ko High Blood, Anemic man gani ko". Familiar?
So, what is Hypertension? Based on the 2020 Philippine CPG for Hypertension office BP of 140/90 or above, taken twice on separate settings is already considered Hypertension. Moreover, Blood Pressure is the force against the walls of your blood vessels (arteries) as the blood was pumped by your heart then flows throughout our body. In simplier terms, kung unsa kakusog sa pwersa sa imong dugo didto sa ugat nga Artery gikan pagbomba sa imong kasing kasing, hangtod sa pagdaloy sa tibuok lawas, mao nay blood pressure. So if you have a below normal BP, it doesn't mean you are Anemic. Anemia is a condition where in your hemoglobin is below normal. Anemia and Low Blood Pressure could be present at the same time, as well as Anemia AND Hypertension can co-exist just like in Renal Failure.

"subaw ra na! dili na covid!" or "trangkaso lang to, bakit magiging covid?"

Well, they were right, somehow.
Because COVID19 infection would manifest like your ordinary subaw or trangkaso - cough, colds, sore throat, body pains, fever, headache, etc. These symptoms are actually your body's way of getting rid of the virus. Your body would try to sneeze it out, cough it out, begins to assemble its battalion of defenses like tonsils get swollen, temperature spikes, loose stools ensues... because basically, your body will protect and defend itself from whatever invasion be it viral or bacterial (or fungal in some instances). However, we are still in the midst of pandemic. We simply cannot dismiss the "subaw lang" or "trangkaso lang" because it could just be a mild discomfort to you but if it gets to an immunocompromised person like a cancer patient or a patient on dialysis or an unvaccinated individual, he could possibly end up in the ICU. So if you dont want to get yourself tested (for whatever reason) , be responsible enough to isolate yourself following the protocols released by the DOH. And if you are vaccinated, chances are, your immune system wins, the virus dies, the symptoms abate, then you will recover. On the other hand, if you dont isolate yourself, you are giving the virus the chance to thrive because it will find another host, it will multiply or worse it can mutate making it more difficult for us to put an end to this pandemic.
Let us all be responsible.

Yes.
"Subaw lang na."
"Trangkaso lang yan."
But it could be covid too.
