Diabetes Awareness Week is a vital reminder that this chronic condition continues to affect millions of people worldwide โ€” often silently. Many individuals live with diabetes or prediabetes without even knowing it, because early stages rarely show clear symptoms. This is where laboratory tests become essential.

Laboratory testing plays a frontline role in the prevention, early detection, and management of diabetes. Common tests such as
-Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS) -8 to 10 hours of fasting,
-Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT)- 8 to 10 hours of fasting,
-and Glycated Hemoglobin (HbA1c)- non-fasting,
help identify abnormal blood sugar levels, monitor long-term glucose control, and detect risks before complications arise. These simple yet powerful tests provide the data that patients and healthcare providers need to make informed decisions.

By encouraging people to get tested regularly, we empower them to take charge of their health. Early detection means timely treatment, lifestyle changes, and fewer complications in the future. During Diabetes Awareness Week, let us spread the message that knowing your numbers today can prevent serious health problems tomorrow.

A small step โ€” a lab test โ€” can lead to a big difference. Get tested, stay aware, and help fight diabetes together.

The Mariano Marcos Blood Bank Color Run last June 14 was a blastโ€”celebrating World Blood Donor Day with splashes of color and a whole lot of love!

Participants of all ages ran, walked, and danced their way through vibrant bursts of colorโ€”not just for fun, but to raise awareness about the importance of voluntary blood donation. Every step we took was a tribute to the real heroesโ€”our blood donorsโ€”who give selflessly to save lives every single day. โค๏ธ

This event wasnโ€™t just about fitness and funโ€”it was a powerful reminder that donating blood is an act of solidarity and compassion. From the energetic warm-ups to the colorful finish line, the day was filled with smiles, purpose, and unity. ๐ŸŒŸ

To everyone who joined, volunteered, or donatedโ€”THANK YOU for making this event a success. Letโ€™s continue to spread awareness, promote voluntary blood donation, and support our local blood bankโ€™s life-saving mission. ๐Ÿซถ

Let's keep the momentum going-donate blood, spread the word, and continue to be champions of life.

World Hemophilia Day, observed annually on April 17, is a global initiative to raise awareness about hemophilia and other inherited bleeding disorders. It highlights the importance of access to diagnosis and treatment for all individuals with bleeding disorders. Among the many facets of hemophilia awareness, one of the most critical is understanding how laboratory tests play a pivotal role in diagnosing and managing this lifelong condition.

Hemophilia is a genetic disorder characterized by a deficiency in clotting factorsโ€”primarily Factor VIII (Hemophilia A) or Factor IX (Hemophilia B ). These deficiencies result in prolonged bleeding, either spontaneously or following injury. Early and accurate diagnosis is crucial to initiate appropriate therapy, prevent complications, and improve quality of life.

Laboratory tests are essential in diagnosing the specific type and severity of hemophilia and in monitoring the effectiveness of treatment which includes the following:

-Complete Blood Count (CBC)
-Prothrombin Time (PT)
-Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time (APTT)
-Factor VIII and Factor IX Assay Test
-Bleeding Time

As we mark World Hemophilia Day, it is essential to recognize the role of these tests in ensuring timely, accurate diagnoses and facilitating effective, individualized treatment.

World Tuberculosis (TB) Day is observed every year on March 24th to raise awareness about tuberculosis and efforts to eliminate it. This date marks the discovery of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacterium by Dr. Robert Koch in 1882, a breakthrough that paved the way for diagnosis and treatment. Despite significant progress, TB remains a major global health issue, especially in developing countries. One of the key strategies in controlling TB is early and accurate laboratory testing, which plays a crucial role in diagnosis, treatment monitoring, and prevention of drug-resistant TB.

Laboratory tests are essential in detecting TB infection, determining its severity, and guiding treatment decisions. The primary laboratory methods used for TB diagnosis include:
1. AFB Staining
2. Xpert MTB/ Rif Ultra
3. Xpert MTB/ XDR

Strengthening laboratory capacity worldwide is essential in the fight against TB, ultimately saving lives and moving closer to a TB-free world.

National Cancer Awareness Month, observed in February, aims to spread awareness about cancer prevention, early detection, and treatment options. One of the critical components of cancer awareness is laboratory testing, which plays a vital role in diagnosing, monitoring, and managing cancer. By promoting regular screenings and advancements in medical technology, society can take meaningful steps toward reducing cancer-related mortality. Increased awareness and access to laboratory testing can save countless lives, making this observance a vital part of public health efforts.
