𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞-𝐖𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐑𝐞𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 𝐢𝐧 𝐈𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐨𝐬 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝟑

The Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center (MMMH&MC) successfully held the 3rd Batch of the Seminar on Strengthening the Province-wide Health Care Referral System in Ilocos Norte last August 22, 2025, at the Marcos Municipal Function Hall. This initiative is one of the province-wide attempts to increase collaboration and increase the efficiency of the health care referral system in Ilocos Norte. The third batch convened representatives from eastern municipalities of Dingras, Solsona, Carasi, Banna, Nueva Era, and Marcos.

The discussions included insights from respected resource speakers. Dr. Gisele G. Acantilado discussed the overview of the Women and Child Protection Unit (WCPU) Protocol, followed by Dr. Joyce Lizette Montemayor, who tackled Hypertension in Pregnancy. Dr. Michael Angelo Agra then delivered a comprehensive lecture on Burn Management and Traumatic Brain Injury. Updates on the Tangguyob Referral System were shared by Mr. Reynaldo U. Santos Jr. and Mr. Ray Vincent F. Formoso, while Mr. Mark Laurence Agbayani introduced the MyHealth App Patient Portal. Concluding the series, Mr. Carlosanti S. Albano discussed the proper management of patients before their transfer to the emergency room.

Beyond the lectures, the seminar provided a chance for dialogue, collaboration, and renewed commitment among health professionals. Participants took part in discussions and shared their experiences. This reinforced the importance of working together for effective management of referrals.

Through this activity, MMMHMC builds a stronger health care referral mechanism, where there is timely, coordinated, and quality health care for all.

CQI Contest and Vegetable Garden Competition Cap Off Day 9 of 2025 National Hospital Week

August 20, 2025 | The Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Contest and the Launching of the Vegetable Garden Competition were conducted today as culminating activities of the hospital’s celebration of the 2025 National Hospital Week.

The CQI Contest, now in its 11th year, has become a yearly hospital tradition joined by different departments/sections/units. It aims to improve systems, processes, and practices for better patient care through innovative and evidence-based solutions.

This year, five (5) entries competed:
1. The Road Less Travelled By: A New Direction for the Newborn Screening Unsatisfactory Sample Return Rate by the Newborn Screening Center Northern Luzon;
2. Save the Near-Expired Medical Supplies: Waste-Minimizing Measure to Achieve a Sustainable Supply by the Nursing Division;
3. Formulation of Strategies to Decrease the Frequency of Emergency Purchase of Drugs and Medicine by the Pharmacy Department;
4. Creation of Quality Procedure in Revising Funded Purchase Orders by the Budget Section;
5. Precision Matters: Addressing Patient Demographics Data Prior to Discharge by the Health Information Management Department (HIMD).

NSCNL bagged first place, Budget Section won second place, and HIMD placed third. The winners received cash prizes and certificates, while non-winners received Certificates of Participation.

The panel of esteemed judges included Dr. Bernadette C. Manlapat, former President of the Philippine Society for Quality in Health Care and guest speaker of the activity; Ms. Farrah M. Rocamora of the Philippine Society for Quality in Health Care; and Dr. Policarpio B. Joves Jr., former Dean of the College of Medicine of Mariano Marcos State University.

Meanwhile, the Vegetable Gardening Competition was officially launched, to be participated by the five (5) divisions of the hospital. The contest will run for four (4) months, with winners to be awarded in December. The contest aims to promote sustainable and productive urban gardening within the hospital.

These activities reflect the hospital’s continuous quality improvement journey, anchored in its mission and vision, and upholding the core values of integrity, excellence, and people-centered care

Day 8 Highlight of the National Hospital Week

August 19, 2025 | MMMH&MC Hosts Second Governance Summit

The Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center (MMMH&MC), in partnership with the Institute for Solidarity in Asia (ISA), successfully hosted the Governance Summit and Best Practice Sharing with the theme “Advancing Good Governance and Wellness at Work Towards Bagong Pilipinas” on August 19, 2025. The event brought together healthcare leaders, local officials, and partner institutions to share innovations and experiences that strengthen governance and promote workplace wellness.

The summit opened with welcome messages from Hon. Cecilia Araneta-Marcos, Governor of Ilocos Norte, and Atty. Alexander L. Lacson, Member of the Board of Trustees, ISA.

Best practices from MMMH&MC were presented by its leaders, including Dr. Maria Lourdes K. Otayza, who shared the hospital’s journey of sustained governance and progressive care; Dr. Jessa R. de Guzman, who introduced the Occupational Health Management System of the hospital; Dr. Regienald Afroilan, who tackled the role of mental health in effective governance; Mr. Gold Mendoza, who shared initiatives on green healthcare and sustainable facilities; and Mr. Dennis Rubio, who introduced innovations through the MyHealth App patient portal.

Sharing also came from partner institutions with topics on human experience, province-wide health systems, and community health engagement, led by Ms. Maria Karina N. Hernandez, Dr. Trina Tabboga-Talaga, and Mayor Mary Chrislyn Abadilla, respectively.

The summit garnered nationwide participation, a total of 695 attendees with 289 engagements through Webex and 55 via Facebook Live; reflecting its wide reach and the growing interest in advancing governance and wellness in the workplace. The event concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Francisco Ranada III, Overall Chair of NHW 2025.

The event served as a reminder that collaboration, accountability, and compassion are vital in advancing the vision of a healthier and more resilient Bagong Pilipinas.
